A GF 2 MX400 can still run NBA Live 2005 at low or medium detail settings. Set your resolution to 640x480 or 800x600. Install other drivers aside from the latest official or beta releases. Do a search in this forum for various drivers that you can try.
Sudden reboots are mostly caused by hardware damage. It could be that your video card had accumulated too much dust on the GPU and that the heatsink corroded. It could also be a faulty memory module on the video card. Another reason could be lack of power from the power supply unit because too many devices are attached to your system (hard disks, optical drives, case fans, USB devices, etc.). Lastly, the motherboard could be damaged due to corrosion, old age, etc.

Try disabling startup items in your system tray so that you'll free up some resources. another thing is to turn off your h/w acceleration of your sound card. Have the habit of using scandisk and defragment your hdd more often. I'm quite curious of your system specs though.
Another idea is to overclock your video card or your system, but that's another topic.
Hope this helps!

that REALLY depends on the brand of card he has. some cards can't take any OC'ing at all. if you choose to oc it, please read in to it first. know what you're doing.
