Using the Y button (Xbox ver. of NBA Live 2005)

Postby sawgood on Wed Jan 26, 2005 9:36 am

I always play NBA Live 2005 as the Denver Nuggets. I was wondering if someone could answer a question for me about when I am controlling either Kenyon Martin or Marcus Camby and have either one right near the basket. Sometimes, when I press the Y button to have them lower their body and the rise up and toss the defender out of the way ... it backfires and they end up simply loosing the ball with it dribbling out of bounds.

So, is there any indication as to when the Y button will work correctly and totally push the defender out of the way VS. them simply loosing the basketball?

Thanks!

I wish they would give you more control over the pro hop button. Choose whether you want to do a spin, drop, or hop.

It would be nice if every player could to a pro hop when driving to the hoop, and only do the drop-step when they were in a post-up position, or facing away from the hoop. I'm sick of not being able to do an actual pro-hop with a guy as athletic as Amare. :x

yeah i've been asking this question for months...

to shove the guy with the shoulder move... it usually works for me when you first receive the ball in the post... dont back down.. and dont dribble... press the pro hop button and move your player towards the defenders direction simultaneously...

for me that shove move has to be your initial move and it works best with a strong rating... it doesnt work all the time... you might be able to do it successfully 1 or 2 times... then after that the computer will make you just drop the ball or call a charge... it wont let you get away with it all game long... yet the computer can do it all the time... and force you to pickup defensive fouls while on the other end you try to do it and you get charging fouls... go figure...

I hate how much they let players get away with it in NFL. But yeah the shoulder is too strong in this game.

It's like this:

standing still + Y = shoulder/bulldoze

hold backdown button + joystick towards your player's back + Y = Shoulder fake

hold backdown button + joystick towards your player's chest + Y = Spin

running towards basket + Y = pro hop

joystick back + Y = step back

not sure about drop step...someone know how to do that exactly?

Well i think i can answer the Losing the ball question. Its all about your Players Strength and Quickness. If your player has more strength than the defender u can knock him back as long as your in the paint otherwise its a foul. Also if your guy has less quickness than the defender he will know to move out of the way and cause you to drop the ball. If you have more strength but less quickness they cancel out and it will be all about chance. Anyways u really dont need the Pro-Hop online since everyone allways jumps and u can just move around them and jam Be Patient :D BTW if its a PG and your Ben Wallace just ask him to move or you will send him a flyin

Sounds like a good move for Eddy Curry up in Chicago. Plenty of strength there.

(Xbox) Shaq and Eddie Curry are great at this. with an inside and strength rating as high as Shaq it is almost impossible to stop.

Are you sure you can control the move? I will try this today.

So, they've gotten better at makign the stronger player bang you and back you down. It sure doesn't seem like that to me. I've seen it happen when like your PG ends up on your center but a lot of times people who shouldn't even let stopping Shaq from backing down seem to slow him.

So far these combinations are not working.
