Ok I decided to try and your scenario and this is what I found out doing a test run with a friend of mine who I got to use these so called dirty tactics.

I ended up winning by 21 pts against the strategy and this is the explanation.
Whenever I scored which was about 80% of the time... I could get my guys back on defense 80% of the time.. Once the ball goes it it takes AT LEAST 3 seconds for the ball to get to the baseline. Now playing quarter court or man to man defense all the defenders would be back as he was inbounding from the baseline and usually the cherry picker would move closer to the players and making him easier to guard.. So I stopped him from scoring on at least 30 occassions in the 8 min qtr game.

Those possessions where I didn't score then 90% of the time I couldn't get anyone back there quick enough and he had an easy 2 points.. But overall the strategy doesn't seem to work as well as u might think..

Can you just cherry pick, too? The game might get chaotic, but you might be able to convince him to call a truce.

Here's what you do, pick a team with a PG that is great at stealing. As soon as you score, guard the inbound pass as good as you can and try to steal every one you can but stepping between the inbound pass and the player pressing steal. Chase his player everywhere and the ones that you dont steal, at least you'll waste a good portion of his time and by that time your defenders will be down court. That'll give you an advantage right there, its pretty easy once you get used to it. Me & a friend both do that and it becomes a battle just to get the ball in play.

It is a known fact that 3 is greater than 2. if he wants easy 2pointers just get a team that can shoot 3's and see if he wants to trade baskets then. As soon as your shot goes up take someone and run down court and try to defend whoever he has cherry picking.

Since he would resort to such a method he must get frustrated quickly so if u can catch fire early u can discourage him from using this sad techinque

Can't really comment on the offense but on the defense that way a lot of teams do in real life. THey try to keep thier shot blocker near the basket to defend against the drive and let everyone else play on the perimeter. When I play most EA games I play with the player with the least amount to do or who can cause the last amount of problems if you make a mistake. In Madden I play with the DL. In Live I play with the Center or PF. I close down the lane if anyone comes in and I play defense on any other big man who trys to come down low but I do try to keep the person near the basket. But I will switch up if I need to go to an open man or sometimes even move the big name over to the person. You game is horrible at switching or getting back on the man you're supposed to be on.

I tell you two things that piss me off though. The person always trying to steal the inbound pass is one. Another thing I can't stand is how the game doesn't box out right. I've played two games in a row where the guy just kept hitting the tip button after missing the shot and was able to tip it bout 5 times before finally hitting it in. My men never moved into position to get the rebound and it was hard to move it. Does box out even work?

Well I guess three things. I noticed that most of the time when I play against some using PHX or SAC all they do is just run around run around run around using turbo all day whether coming up court or in the half court until your team just stops playing defense.

hold up, isn't it illegal defence once the ball has passed halfcourt....so shouldn't Shaq get called for defensive 3 seconds???

He parks Shaq all the way across the court, under the opposite basket. I don't think that's three seconds.

my advice: OFFENSIVE REBOUND

sneak someone under the hoop as soon as your shot is released and try to snatch some OR. since his team is outnumbered by yours, getting OR should be easier. combine this with 3pt strategy.

Seems to me like the tip in feature is too powerful. I've played a few guts online who just tip, tip, tip like 5 times before finally knocking it in and my guys can never move in position to get the defensive rebound.
