Playbooks, Freestyle and shooting

Postby MacBryce on Tue Jan 11, 2005 10:44 pm

Hi guys, i read the forum for a couple of hours now, but i still got some questions i didn't got answered. I've been playing Live 2005 for about 3-4 months. I've built my a pretty good dynasty with the charlotte bobcats in 5 seasons. We're now back-to-back champs with a very deep roster supporting superstars Michael Redd and George Barkley (a KG-like CPU-created player who i drafted in my second season). Besides the Bobcats dynasty i'm also playing an 82-game season with the Miami Heat and Phoenix Suns. Both teams are on their way to the playoffs in mid-season. I always play on the highest difficulty setting (superstar?) and i manage to win 70% of my games in the season mode and 90% of my games in the dynasty mode (but then again, i've got a pretty good squad there). Also, i haven't changed the sliders, because it wouldn't do me any good when i go play the game at a friend.

Why do i want to bring all that up? Because a lot of times people start yelling that the guy who posts a problem (me in this case) doesn't know how to play the game, is a nOOB, is a loser, is terrible at playing videogames, etc. I'm none of the above but i do have some questions regarding the NBA Live 2005 gameplay.

1) Is there a website where i can find the NBA Live 2005 playbooks?

2) Is there a website where i can find a list with all the freestyle controls?

3) Specific for PS2 users: Do the freestyle controls use both analog sticks now? f.e. Up on the left and down on the right does another move than just using down on the right stick.

4) How does the shooting work? I know how to score tons of baskets but the only art of scoring i haven't mastered in Live is that infamous midrange jump shot. It's still a lucky guess for me every time and my percentages when relying on jumpshots are very low. I get most of my points in transition, 3PTs and playing the post. What's the key to scoring jumpers in Live 2005 on a 45% ratio? Is it being wide open? Is it faking out your defender? Is it coming of a pick? Is it being on fire? Which stats determine the outcome of the shot? Can a player be a great shooter the first game and a lowsy one the second?

I realize that 4 is a very though question. So in addition i might help if you tell me a certain player that you're playing with in a season who's scoring +15ppg at +45% on jumpshots. But be careful; i mean jumpshots; if a player dunks 5 times in a game and shoots 10-20 in total, he just shot 5-15 which is well below 45%.

it seems that ever since Freestyle has been incorporated into the Live series the mid range shot has been non existant. To get a 45% on shots you would have to toggle with the sliders. I have my sliders on 38 for mid range and that gets about 42% accuracy which i feel is reflective of the NBA (players tend to shoot the 3 better than mid range)

Isn't the default midrange shot on 50? So you lowered it and they shot better? I'm a bit confused here.

You mis-read the post big guy!!
He wanted a 42-45% shooting percentage at mid-range so he lowered the slider to compliment his playing style!!
