Signing Players

Postby killerht on Wed Nov 10, 2004 4:39 pm

I don't know what the problem was, but when I tried to sign a player for the most money possible, I couldn't do it.

I had 19.20 Million available in Cap Room, so that means I can spend 19.20 million per year, but when I wanted to sign my guy for seven years, it only let me sign him for 83.30 million dollars, which was like 11 million a year, why didn't the game let me sign him for 134.4 million?

19.20 x 7= 134.4

NBA has very strict rules about how much money you can throw at a player... It is mostly linked to the time the player has played in the league.

It's not like hockey where you can throw 30 million a year to a player if you wanted to... There are rules and restrictions in this department. You gave him the max, no one could give him any more than you did... That's for sure. You can give more veteran players 20 million contracts, like guys who have been 6-8 years in the league already... But especially the first 4-5 years the salaries are limited...

Iam not 100% sure but i think the max deal you can offer a player in the nba is about 80 million over 7 years, a rule that had to be changed after the huge contracts that Shaq and Garnett were handed. just look at the knicks Shandon Anderson's 7 mill a year deal

Thanks guys.

I just wanted to say, that I before I tried to sign my guy, I signed Kevin Garnett 1 year-14.8 million
Before siging garnett, i had like 37 million in cap room, after garnet's 14 mill I had 19 million cap room.

Then after I could only give my guy 83.30 million for seven years(which he didn't accept, that's why this thing is weird to me) I tried to sign him for a year like garnett, and again The max I could sign him for a year was 10.89 million exactly the max amount he was able to get per year in the 7 year deal, but I was able to offer garnet 14 mill. per year.
(And the salery stays the same each year for the 7 year contract.)

That's what i dont understand, and my guy was like 5 years in the league already when I tried to sign him to that 83 million contarct.

Maybe that's something we have to let EA Sports know.

I thought maybe it was a bug in the dynasty i played, but I tried anothr dynasty, and the max I could sign my created guy was still only 83.30 million over 7 years.

That means, and I tried it also again, that I can only sign him for 10.89 million per year.

But I can sign other players for ovr that.
I signed Marbury for 14.90 million for 1 year.

So I don't know the reason why I cant offer my created guy more than 10.89 million per year.

Maybe it's part of the game that you can only sign created players for a certain amount.

The money depends on a) a player's last contract (that's why Shaq or KG can earn more than double the league max) and b) his years of experience.

A younger player can earn less over 7 years than someone with 10 years of experience, for example - that's why Marbury gets more than your created player (that, and he already earned tons of money).

Thanks Johnny,

Yeah, I think that too now.

I will play the 7 more years until my created guy is a free agent again, and see what the max money for him will be.

Alright
