It's impossible to shoot against a taller defender

Postby Full Surface on Tue Nov 02, 2004 10:55 am

This is one of the most annoying things in the game. I can't seem to shoot the ball with a perfect release without getting blocked by a taller defender. Usually if it's a guard vs guard or a forward vs forward, I get the shot off correctly. However, when I try shooting with mismatched players such as a guard vs forward outside the paint area, my shot is unrealistic blocked.

I've never seen so many blocks in a game. One time the CPU got 8 blocks with Tim Duncan. I can deal with blocks in the paint because that's where mostly it happens in real life but when you're shooting from 15 feet, a taller defender can block you easily. My CPU shot blocking sliders are set to 0 and it still happens. :(

I don't really understand the jumpshot blocking slider. I mean, if you jump, and he jumps, and his hand is there, what is the slider going to do? It's not gonna make the ball go through his hand is it? (But I suppose that could be a feature of 0 blocking. ). When I shoot over a taller defender, I usually fade, or shoot it off of a pick, and thats usually with Kobe, or not at all, because I don't like to force shots like that. :D I just be patient and wait for the shot to come to me.

Blocks

Postby HarmLess168 on Tue Nov 02, 2004 1:14 pm

The problem is, it's TOO EASY to get blocked when shooting jumpers. Even when you do the fadeaway, it still gets blocked. Whats worse, even after a a screen by a teammate, I STILL get blocked. Or when your defender goes to double team somebody else, and the ball goes to you for a jumper, and it still gets blocked. Very unrealistic.

Has anyone tried playing with the blocks slider set to 100 (seriosly)? Who knows, it may be better that way...

lol, you know, I was actually thinking the same thing. Makes me curious if Earl Boykins can block Shawn Bradley at the three point line. Hmm...

Another Q about blocking shots -- with user sliders set to 0, do you manage to block some of CPU's jump-shots? I haven't played many games, but in those I've played I couldn't block a single jump-shot (I've had only 3-4 blocks on opponent's lay-ups/dunks).

Nah, It's simple. I just lean in and Slap that Ball. I've blocked about ALOT of Jumpshots. Especially in The All-Star Game...I even pull a Tayshaun Prince.
