Even if the computer's being "cheap" and the mode produces unrealistic gameplay? IMO, realism > challenge. Hopefully Live 2005 will give the best of both worlds.

superstar

Right now I'm in between All-star and Superstar. For the low tier teams I play on superstar and vice versa for the good teams. Basically it'll be that way until I really learn the game.

Yeah in Live 2004 I use(d) to beat the computer at a BIG difference on superstar... even by 70+ points. And this without using pro hop at all in the game (never use it in games). And with sliders down to 0 for layups, dunks, adjusted shots, blocks. But what can I do... I keep having FG percentages in the 65% range with guys like Tracy McGrady or Vince Carter.

Oh, and not to mention about free-throws : my "user career" free throw shooting is somewhere around 94 % (that is - all the free throws I shot since I have the game), with Free Throw difficulty set at 100. I get with guys like Shaq somewhere around 88 - 91 %, so that's really annoying because you know that if you get to the line when the game is close (whenever that would happen) you will win since you get the free throw in very is (at least for me).

I just hope it will be tougher this year... oh... and it would be nice to be a "fast-break" slider on there...

Now that I don't mess-up the buttons very often, All-Star. The Xbox button config is very different from how I used to set things up on my PC controller so I was pressing the wrong button constantly at first with this, my first XBox version. I needed Starter to be competitive against even bad teams until I figured out the buttons!

I think the reason you all play on lower level then Superstar is because its hard to use the controller. I played 2002, and 2003 on my friend's XBOX, and i find it very hard to move or play D. On PC is much easiter because all the keys are close to you and are spread accross rather then up.

i think the reason i dont play on superstar is not cause of the remote, its cause i like useing all my players an equal amount. if i wanted to just constantly use a go to guy or my starting 5 i would play it. then again maybe i just aint that good. if thats the case i am glad. all these people who brag about beating superstar all the time by 50 points with the sliders 100% in the comps favor must hate live. why play a game if its not a game. if you always win without fail then its not a game, its just going through the motions. so since i play on all star, and maybe jump to superstar if need be(i never change after i start my dynasty) i find myself always haveing fun with the game and its always a challenge. i will play a couple games on all star and superstar to see what best suits me, though i am pretty sure all star is what i will like more, with a few tweaks.

Oh yea, that really annoys the hell out of me.... but still, i like to win even with the PC trying to cheat me... if i can still win then i feel pretty good. But i see your point for sure.

I gotta agree with cyanide on this. The Superstar mode isn't challenging in a good way. At least on All-Star, you can somewhat dictate a more realistic gameplay by taking more jumpers etc. and knowing that you are still in the game. Where as in Superstar you basically have to drive to the basket every time.

Still, it would be best if EA could make the AI challenging in a non-frustrating way.

Guys if you like a challenge then stick with Superstar. I honestly don't know what it's like to play on another skill level other than superstar so it would be hard for me to say but superstar has always been the way to go and seeing as we have so many live fans on this boards I can't believe you guys don't play superstar more often. I need some online competition when I get online so help me out here. :D

online is different than regular. i personally dont see the 2 relating to each other either. i play all star instead of superstar, i edit sliders a bit, and its alot of fun. when i go online and play people i dont get instantly killed or anything cause i play the game completly different than i do the sp game. in online if i got a go to go or i have an advantage somewhere i will constantly exploit it, i dont this in single player.

When playing against a human opponent, SuperStar is fine. But against the CPU its just frustrating whether you win or lose.

Today I officially made the transition to Supersatr and it's no piece of cake! Detroit took it to me with no mercy but the Lakers gave them a fight 'til the end in a 12 point loss....

Superstar Cheats!!! but i like the challenge, you can't gamble for a steal coz i slight opening for a jump shot and BANG! it doesn't matter whether he's adrian griffin or reggie miller... he WILL drain it!

For Superstar, 1st lesson play honest defense...
2nd lesson, learn how to shoot!

This year's superstar level is different from before. No more fade-away 3-pointers and out of this world shots, and the opponents overall game is realistic. Aside from their catch up ability on fastbreaks, everything seems alright. I'm now playing superstar.

Matt wrote:I always play on superstar. Whenever i get the game i always start a Dynasty straight away. This way i get to lose some games whilst learning about the game. It always ends up being the same, i win 55 games a season and win the championship but hopefully Live will be harder

What Matt said...

Dont have the game till this friday but thats what il be doing ^^^^

SUPERSTAR IS PERFECT FOR ME

Fri Oct 29, 2004 1:22 am

I JUST PLAYED 2 GAMES ON STARTER TO GET A GRIP ON THE GAME AND STARTED A DINASTY ON ALL STAR AFETER ABOUT 20 GAMES I STARTED TO WIN EVERY TIME BY 20. NOW I PLAY AT ALL STAR AND WIN LIKE 65 % OF THE GAMES WITH THE HEAT. IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS WITH JUMP SHOTS, JUST SET THE POOR RELEASE SLIDER FOR USER HIGHER. SO YOU CAN MAKE A COUPLE MORE OF THEM. IF YOU LOWER JUST A BIT THE POOR RELEASE OF THE CPU, IT WILL BE MORE REALISTIC TOO.

IT,S REALLY THE BEST GAME EVER. THE NEW ANIMATIONS ARE GREAT. AFTER THE CPU JUMPS AFTER A PFAKE IF YOU SHOOT WHILE THE DEFENDER IS ON THE AIR THE ANIMATION OF THE PLAYER TRYING TO TAKE THE FOUL IS PRETTY COOL. AND THE NO LOOK PASS UNDER THE BASKET AFTER DRAWING A DBLE TEAM IS GOOD LOOKING TOO.

TO AVOID GETTING BLOCKED YOU HAVE TO USE THE LEFT ANA STICK TO LEAN OR FADE TO BE SUCCESFULL. SPECIALLLY ON THE LANE.

IT, S NOT EASY TO WIN ON SUPERSTAR. IT IS VERY CHALLENGING AND FUN AT THE SAME TIME. LEARN TO FIND THE OPEN MAN AND THE TIMING TO RELEASE SHOTS IS VERY IMPORTANT NOW

SUGESTIONS:

WHEN PASSING TO THE POST USE THE TURBO BUTTON WITH THE PASS FOR THE RECEIVER WONT JUMP AND LOOSE HIS POSITION UNDER THE BASKET EVERY TIME.

GET THE CLOSEST YOU CAN TO THE POST PLAYER BEFORE MAKING THE PASS TO HIM.

SHOOT IN THE MIDDLE OF A FREESTYLE MOVE TO GET SOME DIFFERENT LOOKING AND OPEN SHOTS. SPECIALLY THE SPIN.

OBVIOUSLY YOU HAVE TO TURN DOWN THE BLOCKING SLIDERS FOR BOTH CPU AND USER TO HAVE A REALISTIC FUN GAME. STILL IF YOU DON,T SHOOT CORRECTLY YOU WOULD GET BLOCKED. RIFHT NOW ITS LIKE 6 BLOCKS A GAME FOR BOTH ME AND THE CPU. PRETTY GOOD.

USE GIVE AND GO AND PICK AND ROLLS TO CREATE DEFENSIVE SWITHCHING AND DBLE TEAMS TO PASS TO THE OPEN SHOOTER. DONT THINK JUST BY PASSING IN TO THE POST THERE,S GOING TO BE A DOUBLE TEAM AND YOU GONNA HAVE AN OPER SHOOTER ALL THE TIME.

PRACTICE YOUR JUMPSHOTS IN PRACTICE MODE WITH YOUR SHOOTERS. IT HELPS. IM MAKING CONSISTENT JUMP SHOTS WITH JONES, WADE AND BUTLER.

MOVE THE BALL AROUND FAST. SOME TIMES THE CPU GETS CONFUSED AND YOU GET OPEN SHOT UNDER THE BASKET OF 3PT.

STOP THE CPU RUNS BY CALLING TIMEOUTS AND FULL COURT PRESSURE WHEN YOUR DOWN OR WANT TO STOP A RUN. JUST DON,T LEAVE IT ON ALL THE TIME CAUSE THE CPU ADAPTS AND THEN IT BECOMES UNEFFECTIVE.

TRY ANTICIPATING PASSES TO CREATE TURNOVERS AND DO NOT JUST POUND THE STEAL BUTTON. SOME TIMES YOU JUST KNOW WHAT THE CPU IS TRYING TO DO. JUST TRY TO INTERCEPT.

WHEN A CPU PLAYER IS KILLING YOU, GO AND GUARD HIM BEFORE HE GETS THE BALL AND AVOID HIM RECEIVING ANY PASS. YOU CAN GET MAY STOPS THIS WAY.

TRY TAKING CHARGES. IS NOT OVERWELMING LIK LAST YEAR BUT STILL YOU CAN GET AWAY WITH SOME.

HOPE THESE SUGGESTION COULD HELP SO YOU CAN ENJOY SUPERSTAR

FAN SINCE 95
