How Do You Play Your Dynasty

Tue Oct 05, 2004 8:32 pm

I was just wondering how people play their Dynasty. I don't mean length of season or length of games but rather how you manage your team.

Myself, I never give anyone a contract that's 7yrs long, unless this is the only option, and the player is worth it. I tend to give 3yr contracts to players I like to use and 2yr contracts to players that I've acquired through a trade and haven't gotten fully aquainted with them.

Do you guys go for a Franchise player or build with depth? I always go for depth. I especially like a strong bench that can contribute. I hate playing with a weak bench and having my starters fatigued. I like to give all players good rest.

Also, If i get a draft pick in the area of 20+ I forfeit the pick unless the draft is prjected Strong of Very Strong. Otherwise the player is a drain on the cap and ends up taking away from my FA money. I always forfeit the 2nd rnd draft pick too.

I like to play 2 Dynasties, this is quite helpful as in my other Dynasty I can see which players are good to use and then in my main Dynasty, Detroit, I can get those players. It's a good way to incidentally experiment

How do ppl use their cap space? I tend to sign 2 good players rather than 1 star, unless that star is someone like Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, T-Mac or Kobe.

Any useless players I have I end up trading for the largest possible expiring contract

As far as Dynasty points are I use them to address weaknesses. I barely 'practice' because they seem counter productive. If my team doesn't have enough 3 point shooters I'll get a season length of increased 3pnt rating, and if my big guys aren't that good I'll buy the "increase inside scoring rating" for my bigs.

Has anyone actually switched from one franchise 2 another after winning 2 championships? I haven't done so but I've had plenty of offers. It'd feel weird not playing with D

When I sign players long-term I try to get all the contracts to come off at once. Say I resign 2 players in 2005 and give them 6 year-deals (I'll do that if they are young), then all good players I resign in 2006 only get 5-year deals. I rarely sign 7-year deals, but 5 and 6 is rather common if the guys have upside.
Scrubs and benchwarmers (basically anyone from the 9th man down) only get one year-deals from me, apart from the rookies who have their guaranteed contracts.

Well, I try to be strong 7 or 8 deep. The rest can be scrubs. I usually (as I tend to sub manually) get the best starting 5 I can, then have one good backup PG, a good backup swingman who can play SG and SF and one good backup post player who can play PF and C, then fill the rest with what I can get for the minimum or thru trades.

Also, If i get a draft pick in the area of 20+ I forfeit the pick unless the draft is prjected Strong of Very Strong. Otherwise the player is a drain on the cap and ends up taking away from my FA money. I always forfeit the 2nd rnd draft pick too.

I never forfeit my 1st round pick, simply because it is unrealistic - afterall, they get guaranteed contracts in real-life, so I gotta cope with it. I sometimes forfeit second-round picks (as they are not guaranteed a contract in RL) if I run out of roster spots or want to preserve some cap space.

How do ppl use their cap space? I tend to sign 2 good players rather than 1 star, unless that star is someone like Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, T-Mac or Kobe.

Totally depends. I spend most of my money on one post player and one swingman, as those are the most important positions IMHO, and they allow me to play all styles. If I have the cap-room, I usually go after one superstar and get a marginal star or two to complement him, but I've also had dynasties where I was pretty evenly spread throughout the starting 5. I usually go by what the market has to offer here.

I generally go inside to my post players, Bosh, Marshall and Araujo. I play tight on the PG with Alston. And when i need a quick/easy basket i isolate VC and then call for the pick and head staright to the basket. But sometimes when he gets doubled i would either kick it out to Rafer Alston(Amazing 3 point shooter for me) or call for the "Basket Cut" play and get someone like Rose or Marshall cutting to the hop and dish it there. But basicall i run my offense through Vince and then find the open man for the 3 or cutting to the hop. If nothing is there then ill post up Bosh or Marshall.

my franchise players gets 7 years contract while starter always get 4-5 years contract with exception like if they too old to give long contract and if the players refuse a long contract. i give valuable bench player like 2 or 3 years and the other 1 year.

i have a franchise player and surround him with complement players. also i usually have a second offensive option so when i rest my main man i have a person to go to. i like playing 10 guys but sometimes 9 and go to full 12 when the game was a blowout.

Also, If i get a draft pick in the area of 20+ I forfeit the pick unless the draft is prjected Strong of Very Strong. Otherwise the player is a drain on the cap and ends up taking away from my FA money. I always forfeit the 2nd rnd draft pick too.

i never forfeit the 1st round but i do always with 2nd round. if my 1st round pick were 20 above. i used them as a filler in a trade.

I like to play 2 Dynasties, this is quite helpful as in my other Dynasty I can see which players are good to use and then in my main Dynasty, Detroit, I can get those players. It's a good way to incidentally experiment

yeah that's good idea but i like to see suprises. like i trade for a player then in the future he turned out to be a bust. well that's my fault fot trading for him. but i f he turn out to be the next best thing then i can say to myself i made an excellent move in my franchise.

How do ppl use their cap space? I tend to sign 2 good players rather than 1 star, unless that star is someone like Shaq, Duncan, Garnett, T-Mac or Kobe.

i rather sign 2 good player than having 1 superstar.

i trade them or just release them. this only happen when i get a scrub players from trade. i never sign players that i wont use in my dynasty.

i usually used it for 3 pt rating ,shooting rating and defense

i like to finish with the franchise i started with and made a very good dynasty lets say 7 trophies in 10 season.

1.i never give a 7 year deal unless like you said, its the only way to land someone i love(not meaning the best of the best but i player i love to use). i tend to stick to 3-5 year deals, 1 year for a player i signed after the season started to fill a hole(say after a trade).

2. i try to build with depth. i use either a 8 or 10 man rotation. i like the 8 man as i can give my bench players even more minutes and it also cuts down on my cap. sometimes i just enjoy the bench players so much i want them all to get close to 20 minutes. usually i will have a back up pg/sg, sf, pf/c. when i go 10 man i clearly have 5 subs for my 5 starting spots. i usually start with 8 and after a season or 2 i go to 10 cause of rookies.

3. i never have drafted a 2nd round pick and i usually try to trade my first or just forfeit it if its late in the round. they tend to always be worthless. have heard this has changed this year so i will hang on to a few.

4. i only play 1 dynasty. after awhile i get tired of the game and move on to something else. then i later return to live and start a new franchise with a new team. first is always the celtics the second is usually the bulls though i think it will be charlotte this year.

5. depends. if i got a gap in my starting lineup i try to fill it with the best possible player but most of the time i find myself signing 2-3 guys not just 1 big name. i like building through the draft more than signing players so i tend to stock up on picks in the lottery if i can.

6. ditto

7. i never practiced in live as my players always got worse instead of better. this is fixed so i will practice again and use them to scout.

8. no. never switched teams. once i start a team i stay with them til the end no matter what.

cool

I'm gonna hold on to some 2nd rnd draft picks this time around. Any 2nd rnd draft pick I've ever drafted that has been useable was always a big guy. All the guards couldn't shoot and were way too slow

It's all about the fantasy draft baby!

yeah i already read about this but forgot while in writing my post.
they say we can see some good player in 2nd round and maybe a steal in the draft while some high profile guy will sometimes be a bust.

yeah if i ever though of useing a late first round pick or maybe a 2nd(if i had a high 2nd pick) i would always draft a center as they can atleast rebound. the guards were worthless and the sf was even worse. glad to see that now they are worth holding onto.

also now that we can actually train players without them just getting worse it might be fun to take your first ever second round pick and try to hold onto him for your entire dynasty, keep training him, use him when you can, and see just how good of a player you can turn him into. its something i actually plan to do.
