Impressions about players and game

Thu Oct 07, 2004 12:33 am

At last I got the game, and I was surprised, more than surprised, about the gameplay. This is the best basketball game ever, period. The low post moves, the high post play, it's so complete, so full of options, you can do whatever you want on the court with the right player and you simply can't with the wrong ones (try to do hard dribble moves with Battie and he will lose the ball even unmarked). On offense you have to read what kind of offense is your team running because if your shooting guard is outside and suddenly starts running towards the basket and you pass him the ball outside he won't be able to stop his running and come back and your pass will go out of bounds.
There's so many improvements, so many virtues to highlight and so few defects to mention, this is what I've been waiting for, this is what i've always waited for.
I played at Superstar level, I could never play any less than this since I've been playing NBA Live since the Live 95 edition. I played many games with many teams and there's a list of things to modify (you can do this by yourself, it's just a few things) to enjoy a very realistic game.
I won't talk about the sliders much, there's a thread opened for that, but playing with Press Camera and a little zoom I found necessary to increase the speed to 53 FTs to 65 and you have to take user subs to 50 because is set to 0 by default and your starting lineup could fall on their knees or even die on the court and there will be no substitution unless you make it.
You should also increase the foul call frequency (all of them:charging, in air, shooting, reaching in) and decrease blocking and stealing. there's no complain here cos that's what sliders are for.
A few players to mention: Ginobili (I'm argentinian and it's ok he played superbly at the Olympics and we won the gold, but he's stealing is way overrated, you can't fake a shot on the 3P line because he steals the ball in 2 of 3 times u attempt this, you can't dribble faced to him unless you are playing iverson cos he steals, so you can't dribble, you can't fake, and believe me, playing against the Spurs it's almost impossible to pass inside to a good positioned palyer, their defense only allows you outside shots when they double team but since it's so hard to pass by Gino or Parker or Bowen it's hard to be doubled team also, you have to play hard and focused all game and even then it's hard to stay close), Kidd (he can pass he reads the game so well, but in the game he takes too many shots and he is too fast, since Jefferson is the only star around him he comes to be the go to guy in the game, but his leadership and star condition is because of his passing and reading and not because of his shooting or driving to basket, it's easy to tweak this so don't worry).
Mid range shots: better than before, but Why?? oh Why is almost impossible to take this shots against teams as San Antonio, on defense their players are as bullets and they find their way to place a hand on your face or even block your player (even though they're miles away) on every mid range shot attempt.
These are my impressions to start this thread, I'd like to read yours and if you agree or not with my impressions this far.
