Great Game...and help for a player lock guy

Mon Oct 04, 2004 10:02 am

I haven't purchased the game yet but I rented it from Blockbuster. I'm going to keep renting it until I can buy it on the 22nd when I get paid. I've played a few games thus far and I really like the game. I'm normally an ESPN guy but Live is really great. These guys seem to have atleast made an attempt to fix some of the things that we were concerned about last year.

Anyway, glad to be back in the loop.

Also, can anyone give some tips to a guy who plays player lock on the PG?

Yeah, I was thinking that but at 6 bucks per rental I'll only spend about 18 bucks on rentals. It'll be due back for the last time the day before pay day. Gotta love those 5 day rentals at Blockbuster. ;)

Nice to hear your enjoying the game!

I have never used player lock yet and last year i never really used it, just experimented with it for a bit.

The older I get the less effect I want my stick skills, or lack thereof, to have on the outcomes of games. I want my team to win or lose because they are more or less talented than their opponent. It is for that reason why I coach mode in football games and, if it's an option, I player lock in basketball games.

Out of curiousity, why go for talent when you could go for more control or develop team chemistry with the team you choose by not using player lock?

I'm not sure exactly what you mean. Could you please clarify?

Actually, not player locking is an option for me since I use cpu shot control. Now that is an adventure when you don't have any shooters on your team. One of the best games I've played so far was one with no player lock. ;)

<<goes to turn off player lock :)

I ALWAYS player lock onto the PG... I don't know, I guess it's just a habit from Live '98... I always wanted to be GP and I hated it when I got stuck as a slow center that can't do anything...

Which would most likely be Jim McCalvaine or Sam Perkins back in 98 (on the Sonics)?

I ALWAYS use player lock, wouldnt have it any other way. Its so much more realistic being one player rather than 5. That way if you have a bad game your team might pick up the slack and you still get a W... or you might have a great game and your team lets you down and you lose... REALISM BABY! its the only way...

I also like to create myself as a scrub with ratings that just make it into the NBA... This season im going to create myself as a small forward and get the Miami Heat to sign me and I'll back up Rasual Butler and try and take his starting job from him if I play well enough...

I never use player lock. Once in 2000 I experimented it as a PF but i got bored. It's not like I could set picks for my guards and the CPU never ran plays. I'd call for the ball and end up taking 30 shots a game. I tried playing as a guard but it got boring real quick.

I love playing as a team, it's so much more interactive + you can do what you want (push it on the break instead of the CPU holding it up)

i usually dont lock players. the last time i did was in live 2003. i played Nene Hilario and I scored 31 points one time because all I did was leaked out in the fast break.

Oops, I meant if you're not using player lock, you get more control of your team. When you have more control of your team, you can dictate how plays are going to be run, where your players are going to go, etc. Although you can make your CPU teammate pass or shoot, the AI movement won't be as intelligent unless you were controlling the player with the ball. That's just my opinion :)

cpu ai isnt high enoguh for me to play with player lock. they still dont run with you on the fast break. they dont call plays, they take stupid shots, when they're down by one in the 4th they still shoot purely threes. this happens in live AND espn. until fixed, i cant play player lock.
