Questionable AI at end of game

Postby UtahTio on Fri Oct 01, 2004 3:15 am

I have seen the CPU make some dumb calls with their TO's at the end of the game, but whatever.
But, this last game was a problem, I was playing as the Jazz against Toronto and they were down 3 with 12 seconds left. They called a TO to talk it over, so I was thinking, alright, they know what they are doing. But then they inbound it and run down the clock a little, and throw the ball down in the post to Marshall and he hits a fade away as the clock expires, but I still win by 1 because I was up 3. Why in the world wouldnt they shoot a 3 to tie it??

Perhaps...and im just saying perhaps..they were hoping to draw a foul and make the shot? I've seen teams try that rarely in the real nba. None the less, that is definitly questionable.

Yeah, stuff like that would happen last year too. EA has never quite gotten that right.

What's funny in '04 is that the losing team tends to keep shooting three pointers with about 2 minutes left (kind of unrealistic), and right at the end when they REALLY need a three-pointer they'll go for a two.

 So true, they really need to address things like that for 2006. So far so good with my games thus far but it's only been a few days now....

yeah and to add to that. like if im leading by 4 and less than 24 sec left. the AI dont foul me and send me to the line. seems like they already conceeded the game when they can still tie or win it. i know its been address before

One thing EA could do is allow the user to easily set the strategy for the CPU at the end of games. Like maybe I press a certain button to get the CPU to foul me like they should. And, you should be able to force the CPU to look for a three point shot as well. It's cheesy, I know, but it would be a quick solution while they iron out the AI.

Could that be arranged by switching to the other team and back during the timeout? (or this sort of exploit not possible?)

Edit: forgot to mention my end-game experience. In the first and only game I played, Charlotte was down by one with 23 seconds left. Kapono makes a move and jacks a 3 with like 17 seconds left. Praise to EA for the AI taking the best available shot (fortunately, as mentioned in my first-game thread, Steph came to the rescue). Boo for starting the move too early!

I think you can get the CPU to take a three. You have to switch teams and set their offensive strategy to three point shot, or something. But I don't think there's a way to force it to foul you. You shouldn't need to do that, but when the AI isn't working it would be nice if you could.

I had a similar problem, I was up 3 with 4 seconds left and the comp didn't even call a timeout to try and move the ball up (N)

And it was on All-star

UtahTio said Marshall attempted a fadeaway, so that's not really attempting to draw the foul. :?
