1. I pick it up on my way from school and read the instruction booklet on the train ride home.
2. Lie to my friends that I didn't get it so I can get a jumpstart on the gameplay nuiances and new moves.
3. Get comfortable and pop the disk into the XBox, I'll watch everything in the intro until it's time to press start.
4. I pick either Magic or Kobe (depends on how nostalgic I'm feeling at the time) and go into practice mode where I can try out and appreciate the new moves. I usually do this for roughly 10-20 minutes, just shooting jumpers, dunking and doing new dribble moves.
5. After my practice mode fetish I go to exhibition mode and use the Lakers against a lousy team on All-Star difficulty setting. I watch all player intros and cutscenes without skipping like I'll do weeks later.
6. I usually play a few games to get into the swing of things and then start a franchise the next day. The main thing is to get at least a day in of familiarity before I unveil the game to the fellas the next day as if I just picked it up.
7. We begin setting up a new season. We look over ratings of players and use them in practice mode to compile data for our NBA draft. Once we all feel comfortable with our draft notes as well as comfortable with the new elements of the game, we begin the draft.
8. There are eight of us so we put eight pieces of paper in a hat, each numbered 1-8. After we pick and get the draft order we then start the draft. Whoever has the first pick is usually under the most pressure, do you go for KG or Shaq? Maybe Kobe or T-Mac? I've never had higher than the fourth pick myself, but understand the pressure involved.
9. From there a 70 game season begins, each individual plays the other 7 a total of ten times. We usually get the season done around the time of March Madness and have a 6 team playoffs and Finals. The season is filled with lots of trades, usually a guy who's doing poorly is apt to making bad trades and rash decisions. Sometimes the wrong trade can make a season turn for the worst. We're going to have a ball with Live 2005!
