I am a Live fan first and foremost, but back in the day, that game was awesome. I feel that ever since that release VC has gotten lost. Since then, there is no post moves, the gameplay makes you feel distant and out of control, lack of defense, and just an overal lack fun. If ESPN2k5 can head back to its roots and show some improvements then it's landed my 20 bucks, otherwise EA will once again land my 50.

2k2 had one flaw that was just a gamekiller to me. Open shots would fall 70% of the time and contested shots would fall 20%. Thats not good at all whatsoever..

Also dribble moves were very limited. You couldn't get AI to do a behind the back dribble, but you could get shaq to. The between the legs was the only crossover for good ballhandlers.

Sega/VC/ESPN has been putting out a better game for the past five years. When I bought 2K4, I saw a kid right in front of me with Live in his hand. I felt bad for him, because I knew he was just buying it so he could have any basketball game. Everyone is more familiar with the brand name "Live" so they buy it for the name, rather than the quality.

I've been with Sega since day one. Every year, it gets better reviews, and every year, sites such as IGN and Gamespot say that it's the best basketball game out there. I feel bad for the people who don't give it a chance, and think that Live's better because of it's Freestyle shit, which in my opinion sucks(I don't even use IsoMotion for ESPN; I change the controller configurations so the right thumbstick is used for passing).

The reason why Sega is putting a price drop on games is so people, even if they are EA fans, buy their games because it's so cheap. Then, once they realize it's better, they'll be hooked on ESPN/Sega and buy the game next year, and the year after. Sega might not have the rights to names such as Madden or Live, or come up with cheasy catch-phrases such as "Freestyle" but they've never let me down.

Even if ESPN games were $50, I'd still buy it over this Live shit you guys worship.

ESPN 2K5 is definitely gonna be better than 2k4....2k3 was a great game but then they jus went backwards when they came out with 2k4. If you seen NFL 2k5....then you should expect a great game just like ESPN Football. Jus like there's competition between Madden and ESPN Football....its goin to be the same with the two basketball games. If you read some of the previews for ESPN and it explains how the AI is gonna be much better.....then you should expect this game is goin to be sick. Image But don't sleep on Live 05 either.

Hell yeah I'm coppin this. It's only 20 bucks. There are a load of shitty games that aren't worth the 50 bucks you pay for them. Even if this game isn't as good as Live, it'll certainly be worth the 20 bucks!!!

i would agree that the game will be worth 20 bucks. i just dont think it will be worth spending 20 bucks on a game that i wont ever play over nba live. i will save that 20 and use it on gta:sa which comes out like 10 days after live.

How do you know that? How do you know that Live will be better? Because it's Live and since it's Live it automatically rules? Because it's got a Dunk Contest that will get old after a day? Because it's got Freestyle? Please tell me how you already know that Live will be better.

well every single year i have played bball video games i have yet to enjoy one more than live. its not cause of dunk contest cause i will only do that once a year(dynasty year).

now this is just me, some people will probably actually enjoy espn more and with a 20$ tag they are in for a real treat. but for me i want live and i have high hopes for this years dynasty mode, i think it will be the best franchise out there and that means alot to me.

REPORT: Sega is implementing FirstPerson Basketball.

Hahaha.. I could only wish. The FPF for Football was great. I just hope they do it for hockey and basketball also. That would be a dream come true.

based on what I saw on the ESPN 2k5 trailer video ... I'm not really impressed. I mean ... Yao Ming doing a crossover dribble???? And Marbury with a tomahawk slam??? NBA Live looks a lot more realistic. And don't forget about the new dynasty mode. And of course the DUNK CONTEST!!!

They had the nerve to show those parts and say "Players act like real life NBA counterparts"...

That was the first video that they showed. Don't be so gullible to think that those problems can't be rectified by release.

I assure you that the Dunk Contest will get old before you even reach an hour of playing it. Yeah it might be everything you've dreamed of but I've played a game with a dunk contest(ESPN College Hoops) and it got old real quick. Seeing the dunks was cool but I was bored after a few contests. Also, to my dismay, I've heard rumors on other boards that ESPN is adding an All Star Weeked.

In first person football you actually look throught the helmet and play as if you are really on the field looking through your own eyes. Instead of seeing a player run with the football, you are the player running with the football.

i dont think the dunk contest will get boreing that fast. the way they are doing it i am sure many people will have alot of fun with it. i also dont see any bball game comeing close to touching live. the improved dynasty alone will put ea over the top, not to mention it will be alot more fun to play. i played the espn games before and every second i was playing it i felt i was wasteing my time not playing live. so like i said in a earlier post, even if it was for a free download i would not play it. nba live and gta are all i need

He/she sure does sound like one of the ESPN2005 marketing team. I'm sure the game is worth $20 but still a long way to catch up to Live serise.

I think that was the first video they came out wit....the game just has the improved graphics....when they come out with the next video and you see the same shit...then you can make judgement.

And believe me....ESPN 2K5 will have the best dynasty mode....NBA Live's was garbage last year.

Catch up? Live has been trying to catch up with Sega since NBA 2K came out and the world knows it. It's not always about sales and the bigger fan base, but about respect. ESPN constantly gets better reviews every year. I'll admit that 2K4 was abit of a step down gameplay wise, but it was still better than Live. IsoMotion sucked but Freestyle, in my opinion, is shit itself.

ok my comments were a bit harsh. i like the fact that espn is out there. i also like the fact that they are only 20$(assumeing they still put out a quality game for that price tag). comp is good for us. the more good bball games out there to challenge live the better live will be each year. i am sure espn will be a fun game alot will like it but i dont see anyway that it will be better than live. of course this is just an opinion and those are like... well you know, we all got one. you can probably call me a live fan boy but more a better description would probably be a EA sports fanboy. i wont get a bball, football,or hockey game thats not from EA sports. now its not that i have not tried them cause i have, its i just dont think they are nearly as good. Baseball games are the only exception to this rule. well baseball and golf.

If you were a fan of 2k2 and 2k3, I don't know how you could've like ESPN 2k4. That game was absolute garbage IMO. It went so far away from being a realistic sim it was embarassing. I agree with people about 2k2. That game was money. If it had sliders that year, I'd still be playing it and would've manually updated the rosters instead of dealing with the last 2 years of horse crap for Basketball games. At least I can say that EA has gone back in the right direction. I feel bad for the guys at VC because it seems like whoever is managing them can't decide what they want to do with their games from one year to the next.

How do you go from a sim to total garbage like last year? 4 generic plays in the entire playbook? Crappy Iso-Motion controls. Shaq pulling off finese dunks? Crappy A.I. ESPN 2k4 made me finally jump off the VC bandwagon.

For $20, I'll pick up ESPN and try both this year but VC is in serious danger of me not trusting them again. It sounds like the guy in charge of things for NBA Live has the same vision for turning NBA Live into what us sim freaks have wanted all along.
