Dunk Contest

Postby Sauru on Sat Jul 31, 2004 12:54 pm

ok so i am sitting here being bored so i thought i would try to start a thread....

now that we have a dunk contest to play with and seeing as we can put anyone we want into it i was thinking we could have some of those dream dunk contests that will never happen in real life(once a player becomes too popular playing in the dunk contest can only hurt him never help).

so what 6 players would you guys like to see in it?
i would probably go with

J. Rich
V.C.
Kobe
Mcgrady
Lebron
Rookie(fill in the blank with who you think is the best rookie dunker, i just want a rookie in it)

as you can see i went with a more superstar dunk contest even though there are others out there that can probably out jump these guys i wanna see the big names go head to head. anyone else got any ideas?

J. R. Smith has some hops.......he's on the Hornets. Josh Smith too...he can jump too. They are the highest jumpin rookies I know of.

I'm actually looking forward to some fantasy matchups (Nique and MJ vs Vince and Kobe) as well as recreating some of the classic dunk contests from years gone by.

I was thinking the same thing as Andrew. I'd also like to see how Jordan would matchup against Vinsanity or T-Mac.

great point. didnt even consider the legends at all. we can really have some insane dunk contests in 2005. maybe run 3 legends with 3 current players and you could end up with something like,

mcgrady
carter
kobe
jordan
dr. j
dominique

now to me that looks damn exciteing

What about Spud? He'd be awesome to have in the dunk contest, IMO.

What about J-Rich? He's arguably the sickest dunker I have ever seen.

How come nobody is meantion Desmond Mason. He's like my favorite dunker. He should have won the competition last year.

In 2005 i'd choose (Only players who are still active):

Desmond Mason
Vince Carter
Jason Richardson
Kenyon Martin
LeBron James
Fred Jones

Ben Gordon has hops...but you definitely won't see him in the dunk contest. You prolly won't be able to pick him. Only some people are are available from each team.

I was thinking of the same thing. It would be cool if he could battle with guys like Davis, James...

Anyway:
Ricky Davis
LeBron James
Dwyane Wade
Darius Miles
Desmond Mason
Tracy McGrady

I would pick Josh Smith as the rookie. JR, Dorell, BG, Iggy, LJ, they all have mad hops, but man, Josh Smith is crazy.

That bieng said, it's really tough to pull 6 players out of the current pool. There are just so many great dunkers. But here's mine after awhile of contemplation:
JRich
Vince
T-Mac
Kobe
LBJ
Ricky Davis

It's a bit unfair because it seems all these dunkers are 6'5 to 6'8 (or 10"?). So I made a little guys and big guys list.

Franchise
BDiddy
Wade
Mason
Brent Barry
Freddie Jones

Big Men:
Swift
KMart
Andersen (Chris)
Amare
Big Ben
Thomas (Kenny)

Probably not, but I'd say we will be able to use created players in the dunk contest and three point shootout. There was never an issue when selecting created players for the three point shootout in previous Lives, so as long as the created Spud Webb has jumping and dunking ratings that make him eligible for the contest, there should be no problems.

Kobe Bryant

LeBron James

Tracy McGrady

Vince Carter

Michael Jordan

Julius " Dr.J" Erving

But what I think is thatKobe isn't doing any explosive dunks as he used to when he was younger, even though he's only 25. I think it's due to injury, like his knee and shoulder. But that's who I would like to see.

I was noticing the same thing too. On the breaks and such he just throws it down or just slams it hard haven't seen any reverse jams or 360s or nothing anymore..
