Either lakers or pistons imo.

The defending champion is often ranked number one, but this hasn't always been the case. The team with the deepest roster (ie the team with the most players with good overall ratings) will likely be considered the best team by the game's rankings. I've got a feeling Portland was ranked first in the default rosters in NBA Live 2001 even though the Lakers were the defending champs (similarly, the Indiana Pacers were not ranked second even though they were the runners-up).

the timberwolves will probably win it all next year
Tue Jul 20, 2004 5:30 am
ITS GONNA BE THE PISTIONS, OR SOME OTHER TEAM IN THE WEST
Tue Jul 20, 2004 5:31 am
uh this really has nothing to do with the game... perhaps you could take this to the NBA talk section...

i gotta personally think that by resigning ginobli and picking up barry that the spurs are the team to beat this year. out west you got the big 4 imo of the spurs,t wolves, kings, mavs(in that order) and in the east you got a top 4 of detroit, miami, indiana, hmmm lets say 3 now that kmart is in denver lol.
Tue Jul 20, 2004 11:16 am
i think you should vote qballer
Tue Jul 20, 2004 11:17 am
No Kings?
Tue Jul 20, 2004 11:19 am
naw i say thta cause they should have beaten wolves but they failed so they get no play.lol

I'm pretty sure platinum_cjb means who will be the best rated in NBA Live 2005.

The Pistons will not be the best team, the best team in a video game = the team with the best talent, not the team with the greatest chemistry or very good coaching or very good team play because those things aren't factors at the moment in game ratings,
It will be: Dallas, Sacramento, or the Timberwolves

i would vote, but it's still too early, but as of right now, I think Detroit is the best. They got their whole team back along with MyDyess and Delfino... they'll be tough to beat.
There's still too many Free agents out there & I'm sure they'll be many transactions made before the season starts so I hate to try to predict these kind of things.

Grizzlies basically because they had the deepest roster. On the updated april 16th rosters online the Grizzlies were rankied 88. They will only be better since they added Cardinal
Thu Jul 22, 2004 7:46 pm

Miami?
I like Miami a lot and I'm a fan but that's craziness, the team is very lacking in depth right now.

at best the lakers can maybe pull the 6th seed out west. signing divac was a big help for them but imo they are still the 6th seed.i think it will go like this
Spurs
Wolves
Kings
Dallas
Houston
Lakers
hmm i guess the lakers could take the 5th spot if houston cant find a way to fill the gaps. to bad they couldnt get fisher. both the kings and mavs were hurt by loseing a key player for nothing(double hurt for the kings sake as they had to get Greg O to replace divac. we will have to wait and see.
on a side note i hope the lakers miss the playoffs all together, but thats just a celtic fan hateing the damn lakers.

Houston will not be that high come playoff time. If anything the Nuggets and Grizzlies will both be ahead of the Rockets basically because they are deeper and they will have more team chemistry. The Rockets have a new roster ahead of them and it willl be less team chemistry unless tmac tells the truth about letting the offense run through yao.

I hate to break it to you boys, but the Mavs can't win the title... They lost Nash to Phoenix and so the show is without the runner and they still don't have a legitimate big man to man the center position. Offense wins games, defense wins championships. And Mavs don't have defense... Haven't had in years... I wouldn't rank them to the top half in west.
The grizzlies and nuggets are really going to be dangerous next season. They have their cores intact and have improved lately.
In west:
Spurs are tough, although I just hate Duncan as he's a gray cardboard man (no color, show some feeling man).
Kings lost Divac but they got Ostertag to fill in and they still have Miller, Webber and Peja.
Wolves are going to be better next season... KG just can't be stopped...
Houston, we'll just have to see how Yao and T-Mac mix it up. And if Yao can improve his game (he needs to get more consistent to be one of the best centers in the league).
Lakers didn't really loose anything... The reason why all west teams needed to have dominant big men left to the east so Divac can fill the center slot more then well in the west now. Odom had an excellent year and Caron Butler will be better if he can stay healthy. And I don't think we've seen the last of Payton. I believe he was hurting bad during the finals as he was that bad and you don't get that bad in a year, so had to be hurt. And with the coaching change we should see him rejuvenated. Kobe, well he'll be Kobe unless he thrown into jail.
In the east:
Indiana will probably top the east (during regular season). Trading Al Harrington will hurt although they got a perimeter player in return. Harrington was good, but he was unhappy. O'Neal and Artest will determine the fate of the Pacers.
Pistons, the defending champs don't get the jump on anyone. Really haven't lost anyone cause McDyess can fill Okurs position well.
Miami should rank up there... Shaq, I don't think I have to say more. They'll surround him with some role players and Miami will be set. No one can stop the Angry-Shaq!
Nets are not done, they will find someone to fill the void left by KMart. Reports have Shareef coming over from Portland. A team with Jason Kidd is never going to suck, he just makes everyone else so much better than they are.
Knicks, (my favorite team) I see these guys pushing for a play-off spot for the first time in a long time... They collected the needed pieces last season and now they just have to play as a team and I see them making the play-offs. And with all the experience on the roster they could be dangerous in the playoffs.
But this all too early to really tell the tale... I have a feeling that the blockbuster moves aren't done for this summer yet... I see some potentially big moves ahead... The most exciting time for us speculators.

just wanna add a few comments on the metsis post,
payton was terrible the enter playoffs not just the finals. he can no longer keep up with the speedy pg's of the nba. it happens when you get old, cant prevent it, what he needs to do is change his game a little in some areas to comp for it. jordan did this when he was too old to keep up with the younger players by learning an unstopable fade.
pistons i feel actually got better. okur was ok in regular season but did nothing in playoffs and was totally absent in the finals. i rather have a healthy(keyword) mcdyess over him. they still have darko who was also totally a wash in his rookie year but if he works hard enough might turn into a good bench player for them this season(will have to wait and see)
about miami, shaq in the east is crazy. most teams got centers who are too short or too skinny. no center in the east can stop him. he was the only one who showed up in the finals vs the pistons also.
the kings have lost a little. divac is still one of the best centers in the league(man the nba lacks good true big men) and greg O is definetly not the answer. still he is a big body so its not a total lose like....
the mavs, they lost nash and got nothing for it and since they are already way over the cap they dont even get money to play with. lucky for them thier back up PG(name slipped my mind sorry) played really well for them late in the season and in the playoffs. if he continues to improve and play that good/better this lose wont hurt too too much. i will be very surprised if they dont made a deal in this offseason.

Gotta be the Kings...They lost Vlade....but if not them ill go with the pistons or the t'wolves
