All Star Game

Postby Sauru on Thu Jul 22, 2004 10:48 am

one thing i would love to see changed in 2005 all star game is the computer substitutions. the comp never subs like its a all star game. they leave starters in almost all game long like its a normal game. i would love to see this changed. same goes for the upcoming R vs S game.

yea. all-star games are just regular games. its stupid. no point being in all-star team if ur 10-12th guy.

i think i read somewhere that theyre gnna make all-star game more flashier like in real life. BUT i hope they do change the substitution patterns for all-star.

Yeah...but you can change the fatigue slider before the game so that players get tired more easily..thus more substitution

Agreed. Changing the sliders does help a little bit, but it would be nice to see the CPU sub similar to the real All-Star Game, with everyone getting into the game fairly early and rotating somewhat freely through the first three quarters, with the CPU getting serious if the game is close down the stretch.

I agree with Mikki alsol. They don't sub at the right times and in the All Star game they barely ever sub. It's an all star game people are getting subbed in and out.

i just played my all star game last night so thats what made me think of this. when i get to the all star game i never give anyone more than 25 minutes, and everyone gets atleast 12 minutes. way i see it, they played thier arses off to get there so i aint gonna reward them by camping them on the bench.

i also agree that they need to substitute better in real game situations. for instance they have to fix that crap when a player with 5 fouls is instantly subbed out and never brought back in. if mcgrady happens to have 5 fouls with 1 min to go in the game and down by 2 they aint gonna let him waste away on the bench.

I agree with that as well. One significant improvement would be changing the position of players already in the lineup. When I'm making substitutions, I often switch players already in the lineup to their secondary position to bring someone else in, and I'm sure many other people do as well. If the CPU did this too, it would make the substitution patterns much more realistic.

another thing i would like to see is,

say the comp is down 3 with 14 seconds to go. they get the ball and call time out. they put in thier 4 best 3 point shooters and 1 rebounder just incase. this happens very often during the regular season but they wont ever do this in nba live.

Situation specific substitution patterns are a great idea. I'd also like to see frequent substitutions in the final minute of a close game.

Take the 1996-1998 Bulls teams for example. Phil Jackson would often alternate between Kerr and Harper at dead balls in the final minute of close games. If the Bulls had to defend a possession, Harper would be in the game. If they needed another shooter out on the floor, Kerr was the better choice so he'd be on the floor with MJ and Pip.

yeah i remember this. this has happened with alot of teams over the years. infact it even happens mid game sometimes. say the lakers vs rockets. shaq and ming on the bench. the lakers come back with shaq and instantly you see ming jump up off the bench to counter the lakers sub.

Yes, that's another important point - varying the substitution pattern depending on the current state of the game, the time remaining and the opponent's lineup.
