Thoughts about the Rookie-Soph game.

Sun Jul 18, 2004 3:18 am

How do you guys think the Rookie-Soph game should be played? Do You think it should be something more of an NBA Street Style of gameplay without all the high-flying dunks, or just a faster type of sim?

nba street style play with high flying dunks

Rook soph game is pathetic.
Rather have the dunk contest which is about the same...

Rookie Sophmore game is an actual ball game.

Dunk contest is more like a tony hawk kind of thing.

You obviously didn't watch it, it's a dunk contest. They only play defence if they think they can get a huge block (which is sure to get an 'ooooohhh' out of the crowd). The rookie game is supposed to be a game but they just stand around and dunk.

It's not supposed to be played like that, but thats how it was played, their's supposed to be at least some defensive intensity, last year was reffered to as an embarassment to the short lifespan of the event.

they should just make the rookie-soph game into a NBA Street clone, that would be so fun, since they will never bring NBA Street to the PC

personally i would not want them to spend any more time working on code for the rookie game. i think just haveing it in game will be fine. infact i think it will be more fun if it plays like all the other games in live do.

my question would be, who will people pick to use each year in thier dynasty. will you always use rookies? always use sophmores? maybe pick the one who has a player from your team on it? what if both teams got a player from your team on it? probably will always use rookies myself unless the sophmores have a player from my team on it while the rookie team dont, but that may change.

another thing, and one thing i think will be great about the rookie game is, after out first season in dynasty mode we will have a chance to play the top draftees each season. maybe we like one alot and desciede to make a trade to get one of them. i like this part alot.

They play it realisticlly but when the lead is too high, they just show off dunks.

I think it should remain simulation-style. There's no need to make it arcade-style. It should be a matter of turning up the dunk slider and perhaps the freestyle effectiveness to capture some of the highlight reel style of play that we always see (though not always to the extent of 2004's contest) in the rookie game.

I actually enjoyed last year's Rookie-Soph game even more than the All-Star game. :D

Where's the point in creating a seperate mode if it played just like a normal 5 on 5 game?

IMO, the rookie game should just be an arcade type game, but I don't think it will be something that sliders can't fix.

the point in haveing the rookie game even if its played like a reg 5 on 5 game is the same point for even haveing the all star game. i rather not have they waste alot of time on codeing the special features and spend more time working on gameplay issues and dynasty issues. they must have already spent alot of time on the dunk contest, no need to waste more time makeing the rookie game(something i personally will only play once per season) play like a different game altogether.

I think the rookie-game is a superb idea. I've played through seasons playing against "Yohance Shakur" and I won't have a clue as to if he's good or not. If he's good, I'll forget him after a few games.
Anyways, point is...with the rookie game, the best of the best rookies will be chosen to play. This way I can sort of evaluate the players.

I like it, alot of things have been added that will keep me interested in the course of a Dynasty, normally I play a few games, I quit and restart a day or two later. Hopefully, this will keep me busy a bit longer than usual. (Y)

I'd like to see EA record a completely different commentary track for the All-Star and Rookie-Soph games, give it a more more arcade-like feel and put in a bunch of cool cut-scenes. In general, just give it a more light hearted atmosphere than the regular season games.
That isn't asking too much. :D
