Quick question on pro hop button

Is it normal or a problem of my gamepad that the pro hop button only works when the turbo button is not pressed at the same time?
Moreover, I can't move the left analog stick and press the pro hop at the same time. I think it works for the hop before a layup.
But big men with the step (defender is pushed) can only make their move when I neither use the left stick nor the turbo button.
It is kinda annoying when I move a PF or C and press the pro hop button but nothing happens. When I have to make sure that I only press pro hop and nothing else everything is slowed down. And the defender gets the ball easily.

From what I remember about the way 2005 handled the pro hop move, that doesn't sound normal.
