Low Post Too Easy?

Wed Jun 29, 2005 4:44 pm

Is it just me or is it really easy to score in the low post?

I used to suck against the computer on superstar mode in the low post. I kept trying to do lay ups and they would either block me or force me into a bad shot. When i did regular shots i would just get blocked.

Then i realized the key: jumping forwards when you shoot. When you do a shot while jumping forwards you dont get blocked.

I applied this using shaq and it owned. But obviously practically anything will own with shaq so i decided to really test it out.

I used Nenad Krstic in a game. He is rated like 53 or 54 in the latest roster update, so hes not terrible but he is by no means an offensive monster.

At first it seemed to me that my thing only worked with a shaq like guy. I missed my first couple shots. But i had forgotten about the jumping level. Krstic only has like a 36 jump rating. I had been jumping too long and thats why i missed most of my early shots. Once i fixed that i was good to go.

I ended up going 8/11 in field goals with krstic. Considering that that is counting two early misses because of me holding shoot too long, that is pretty dominant. Besides the field goals i also got to the line a few times.

And it wasnt that i was against a team with terrible defense. I was playing the bulls. Krstic was getting guarded by tyson chandler half the time and hes a very good defender.

I dont consider myself a master of the low post either. All i do is back the guy down, spin off one way, press the pro hop button, and then shoot while leaning forwards. It seemed to work just about every time.

I was using Andrews sliders which are realistic and everything. Does anyone else find scoring in the low post to be a tad too easy? I mean to me there is no reason to try jump shots with guards because this is way better and I get a way better field goal percentage out of it.

Wow i gotta update this. After i made this thread i realized that this was a one day fluke. After i made the thread i was terrible with this method. SO i had to go back to the drawing board to make a new move that would be unstoppable. I came up with quite a good move. It seems to work with anyone against anyone.

I am sure 99% of the people on here are better than me at this game and already know how to do this or know of an even better thing but for the other 1% heres my move.

Set up at one of the top corners of the paint. It could be closer in but not farther out. When you get the ball, back the opponent down for a second or two. If you have the strength advantage then do it for a couple seconds and if you dont then go on to the next step as quickly as possible. Roll off of the back down towards the middle of the paint. Move towards your opponent. You will end up doing that thing where you and your opponent both hop back a bit giving you some room. Do a drop step towards the basket. A lot of times when you do the drop step you will sort of smash the opponent and throw him backwards a bit leaving the basket completely clear. Even if you dont its still is fine. Do a lay up/dunk.

This will work all of the time. It very rarely gets blocked because either you drop stepped past your opponent for a quick lay up/dunk or your opponent gets thrown back and cant jump right away. For that same reason your shot is rarely ever adjusted by the opponent.

The only problem with this is turnovers. Its fine if its just one guy guarding you. They will rarely ever steal it. But as you are rolling off of the back down or as yhou are doing the little collision thing right afterwards, if someone comes up to double you they will be able to steal it a lot of the time, especially if you have a center with bad dribbling skills. However there is an obvoius solution to this. When you get the ball call an isolation play. This means that to double you they will have to leave a guy very open, many times for a three. After you abuse the computer a couple times with a nice pass to the open man they will hesitate to double you. Even so when they do its still going to be hard.

If you are feeding the ball to the post every play for the entire game then youll have a whole load of turnovers. But if limit yourself to about 20 shots with your center then you shouldnt have more than 4 turnovers if you are good. Thats still a lot but believe me its worth it. Even with only a 30 for drop step effectiveness its pretty easy to go something like 16/17 with even a crap center.

Yo, Change your sliders. I know that Andrews Sliders are good and all in its own terms like on the half court and such, but it completely sucks when it comes to the low post, I think the boundry forcefield is too high or some thing, I can score in the low post everytime with what your talking about. Don't get me wrong, i'm not knocking on Andrew's sliders, its really cool but all i'm saying is just tweak it a little to get the more realistic feel. Raise the block ability, etc. There are other posts on realistic sliders so try them out.
