A Good 2nd Dynasty?!?

Sun May 29, 2005 5:58 pm

I've been a bit slack on my Bobcats dynasty but it will continue, so don't fret....

but I'm gonna be starting a 2nd dynasty....I'm looking at doing a 29 game season dynasty....my usual 1/3 playing, 1/3 4th quarter intervention and sim the other 1/3....I figure I'll be able to get through seasons pretty quickly....I won't be putting in real NBA rookie classes as is too time consuming to dbf-edit and feel like using generics for some reason....

basically, I want a team that:
- is over the salary cap
- is mediocre or about to head towards mediocrity
- preferably one franchise player

I don't wanna be Atlanta as I don't like the unis....I would always consider someone like the Miami Heat and sim the 1st season and not resign Shaq and use Wade as my franchise player and build around him....

let me know your thoughts guys....

EDIT: I would also consider dynasties in which they start with a scenario, for example, Heat don't resign Shaq, another team trades for so-and-so....

Hmm... Portland I guess, although most of them are expiring so they might not be that much over the cap... Minnesota? although Sam/Spree are also expiring... what about Toronto? I think Donyell's the only contract coming off, apart from Bosh (franchise player) their best players are Rafer 'Mini-Artest' Alston and Jalen Rose.

Sun May 29, 2005 6:36 pm

I wouldn't do Minnesota, don't wanna use Garnett....would probably favour Raptors over Portland as Raptors have less talent to work with but are nonetheless strapped of cap position and manuervability....I like Rose as well for some reason....always have, especially in his Nugget and Pacer days....

so at the moment Toronto is a possibility....
Miami without Shaq is a possibility....
I wouldn't rule out Portland with conditions (say Van Exel and Stoudamire don't resign and a couple of headaches are taken care of)....
Utah has always intrigued me....
would also consider Seattle with conditions, meaning Ray Allen goes bye-bye....

hmm....any more thoughts?!?

Knick situation is kinda tough, it would be interesting getting out of that without abusing Atlanta & Charlotte's cap space.

Sun May 29, 2005 6:48 pm

yeah, I would never do something cheap like using those team's cap space....I thought about the Knicks, but a few other people have done it, and I don't really like the makeup....the franchise player Marbury is not my type of guy....would prefer a Chris Bosh, a Dwayne Wade to use in the dynasty....

Sun May 29, 2005 7:10 pm

Actually, Phoenix always does terribly in my dynasties. If you do a what-if and say Dallas or another team grabbed Nash, they would be downright awful as a simmed team, but you'd have a fun franchise player in Amare.

Houston! Yao Ming! Lose T-Mac somehow!

Sun May 29, 2005 7:40 pm

Sit, don't really like Yao or T-Mac so have to avoid Rockets....sorry....

hmmm....that's an interesting thought....Suns without Nash....nah, but it's alright....

I think I'll just start one with Raptors but start dynasty with a couple of trades....maybe sim one season in....then Rafer Alston and some of the other bad seeds are traded....

still deciding though....

EDIT: I'm gonna go with the Raptors....start at beginning of '04/05 season....grab my 2nd 1st Rd pick from that Vince trade....release Alvin Williams due to injury (he wouldn't take a payout) and his contract (about $5 mill per) will stay on my books through the '05/06 season....might also deal Alston and possibly the Williams....will probably give up a lot for a little in a deal to try and keep it realistic for these guys who want out of Toronto....might see if I can get a PG like Earl Watson to be starting PG....will try to keep it realistic by not dumping salaries to Bobcats and Hawks....will probably keep Rose in the fold....might do recaps at end of each season in NLSC Dynasty Stories....Pape Sow to be an integral part of team :D

Sun May 29, 2005 8:17 pm

No no... do Portland and get Gerald Green and Sebastian Telfair to team up!!!

Sun May 29, 2005 8:35 pm

I won't be using real draftees....won't it to be a quicker dynasty....I thought about Blazers but they have too many pieces of the puzzle....

might keep Alston now....I dunno....his contract is pretty cheap....

what do you guys think of the following trade....
Alston, E. Williams and Palacio
for
Claxton, Dickau and Lynch?!?

basically, I got rid of headaches Alston and Williams, and threw in Palacio for the deal to work....I get back a couple of PG's who I'm happy with to man the PG position for the '04/05 season....Lynch provides veteran play that Williams was suppose to do....they all have 2 years left on the deal so that's not too bad....as for Hornets, they get an upgrade at PG with Alston (62) being rated higher than Claxton (60) and Dickau (53)....Eric Williams (60 or 61 I think) is higher than Lynch (57)....Palacio (45) is a throw-in....I think in real life the Hornets would benefit slightly with the addition of Alston and Williams....Alston would be more of an offensive option and could help....

I dunno if it's completely fair for Hornets so any thoughts would be appreciated

Sun May 29, 2005 9:18 pm

hey Mark....

the Grizzlies wouldn't accept my trade so I decided to do another trade....I edited my post 2 posts up....trade with Hornets....would appreciate your comments....

and I'd probably do yearly recaps of dynasty for nlsc, so I get through seasons quickly....

No I think tis fair, although I dont know why you are trying to get rid of Alston really, hes a pretty good player in the game.

I'd do that trade, I like those 3 Hornets and hate those 3 Raptors. :D

it's not that I wanted to get rid of Alston as I don't mind him, it's just that I wanted to add a realistic spin on the dynasty....Alston is volatile in Toronto and Eric Williams is not happy with his surroundings....

I guess great minds think alike

Maybe work out a trade with Seattle to move Araujo for Swift. Both players didn't see much time and a change of environment may be what's needed to rejuvinate both

the grizz are great....not much franchise players but all around there are talents to begin with 8-)
