PG's ruining the game!!!!

Mon Nov 08, 2004 8:53 pm

Hi guys ive just started my Orlando Dynasty im currently 2-1 atm (lost to the Bobcats, wat the???).

I have found that the PG's like to drive, and they like to drive too often. Now they score around 20 to 30 a game on average. Mike James for the Bucks hit 27 in my game against the Bucks, in game too Baron hit 34, that didnt bother me mich cos hes good. But against the Bobcats Hart hits 23 and Knight 24 WAT THE???

Also when they drive it becomes a block fest, i play on 9 min Q's and i have the rest of the league games simmed on 12, after 3 games Cato and Howard have 24 and 19 blocks respectivly, Ratliff is 3rd with 11. WAT THE???

Just wanna know if anyone is havin probs?

I haven't started a dynasty yet, but I've read some of those complaints in other threads ... not the PG thing though, but the too many blocks. Turn down your block sliders and try to avoid blocking by playing accordingly. But thats only for the blocks the CPU does ... if you block too much ... well, turning down the slider is the only thing which comes to mind.

What I do to combat the problem is to swtich teams at the tip off and select the CPU offense to something other than dynamic. In the 2004 forum if you do a search there is a thread about which offenses teams run.

This helps the problem a little bit but not much. All starting PG's take at least 14 shots a game against me....Usually they don't shoot to well but they still jack them up

Man, learn to play some D. It isnt last years live where computer didnt and couldnt take advantage of dribbles as players can. Im playing on superstar, with a controller (helps defence quite a lot Id say, been playing on keyboard since 99 and now got a gamepad), with charlotte which has weak PG's, but in my dynesty Ive signed Mourning so Ive got some strong numbers up front. I can handle their forwards well, but have probs with hotshot PG and SG's cause I dont have much of a defencemen there. There are PG's whove killed me, but they are the ones who should do so in real life as well, naming Marbury, Kidd and Nash. With any other typical PG, their PG scores are similar to my own.

You GOT TO learn defence. Computer can use pro hop, strength and dribbles nearly as well as human player, and compared with Live2004, computer FINALLY can take advantage of less-skilled defenders.

And NEVER leave a guard in front of a C or PF during their fastbreak. Ive had my men 9 instances out of 10 been slammed off court bigtime.

D is the key in Live 2005, when offence ruled the game in 04. Learn to play D and youll stop most of the PG's. Its about reaction, and the typical strategy just to continue punching your steal-key doesnt work in Live 2005 anymore.

If you remember, Live 2004 needed mostly double-team to steal the ball, or just play steal-buttoning with your PG in front of the player with the ball. THis doesnt work so anymore, ball needs to be "in position" for the theft to occur, and in regular situations this means usually during receiving a pass or sending it, or when player tries to pumpfake or shoot.

However it needs tweaking as does blocking, down a bit.

But D is the key. Know the D and win the game. Ive finally found use of those non-shooting players in the team. Every player can be used for his skills, and as it was in Live 2004, getting a team of shooters winning title, it isnt so here anymore. PLaying against Detroit, the score came low because of heavy D on both parts, but it was so enjoyable. While against shooting teams scores ran high because of their offence priority.

Live 2005 is a pure realization of Live 2004's potential. It has its problems of course, but it is the best and most realistic basketball simulation to date.

I play a Hornets-Dyansty and I shopped around some older guys with longer contracts. So Dwight Howard as the target and Stacey Augmon as the filler has been added to my roster.

I also recognized that Defense (Def Awareness especially) is more important then in 2004. Now Augmon, who was supposed to be the 12th guy in my team, comes in everytime when the opponent plays strong from the wing. The difference between Augmon's D and Baron Davis' D is incredible!

It seems that the stoppers of the real NBA-teams (Christie, Bowen, Hassell, Augmon e.g.) influenced EA Sports. :)

I personally just LOVE the D in Live 2005. Has many blocks even on minimum, but its a game still, doesnt matter.

I STILL LOVE D

Fianlly NBA Live is something Ive wished for a long time. Game has always had nice offence, but kinda stinky or artificial defence. Now Michael Jordan can be realized, one of the masterminds of defence and teamwork.

Inside D is also great. David West is a far superior defender even against taller guys then my other forwards. He crushed Duncan in my playoff series :)

Stats that matters: Def Awareness > Strength > Jump > Height > Quickness for interior defense.

After my first Hornets-Season I will try to setup my roster like this:

C/PF: 1 Scorer, 1 Banger
SF/SG: 1 Scorer, 1 Stopper
PG: Baron Davis

Bench: 3pt/Scorer (Darrell Armstrong, unfortunately very old), Stopper, Scorer, Banger

9 Man rotation :)
