Pc SPEC 1.2-2.0Ghz, 256mb-512mb, High end GPU

Fri May 07, 2004 2:56 am

Last years(04) specs very low at 600Mgz, 128mb, 32mb Graphics and we all now what it looks like. I exspect this years(05) to be at least double the spec of 2004, 1.2ghz(min) 256mb(min) 64mb(min).............So who needs to upgrade?

Fri May 07, 2004 6:43 am

there will probably not be a significant change graphics-wise, considering these games are still primarily made for consoles, and console hardware can go only so far... therefore the specs will probably stay similar.

Fri May 07, 2004 12:28 pm

Well, doesn't matter to me since I upgraded my PC about a month ago. Finally, I've hit the 3.0 Ghz point!! w00t!!!!

Fri May 07, 2004 1:40 pm

I doubt the specs will be that high...but even if they were, I'm set with my current PC.

Fri May 07, 2004 7:57 pm

Well, nowadays, it is possible to have those as minimum spec... But it is highly unlikely simply because not much game nowaday require such a high spec.... and of course the reasons others suggested above....
These specs is mainly for fps (first person shooter) right now and a sport game doesn't require as much process power...
We can also look at EA (hmm... I believe is EA) newest sport game, the EURO Football 2004.... It doesn't really requrie high spec, so I think the same will hold true in October or November....

Fri May 07, 2004 8:08 pm

If they move forward with the visuals the spec will increase no doubt. I dont think what i have suggested is that high compared with the latest games! All i have done is double the rec spec from 2004, simply becuase it did actualy double from 2003!

My computer came through and was able to run NBA Live 2003 on a 550 mhz pentium3... :D then it suprised the world and ran next year's NBA Live too... hopefully i can keep this tradition running!

Well around tax season, i should be gettin a decent tax return, goin for a btter motherboard and graphics card, then i shall be set.
though i run far cry pretty good with my scabby fx5200.

any tips on what sort of video card i should get?

Sat May 08, 2004 6:27 am

I just brought a 9800pro, i upgraded from a Titanuim 4800 128mb, before that i have always had Nvidia. I was gonna get the FX5900xt which is about £150 and sounded a really good bargain, to good though cos i couldn get 1 anywhere, so i got 9800pro for £200 instead (Y) (Y) (Y) . This is gonna sound dumb because its obviously a better card, its made all the differnce to my PC. Not just gameplay but elsewhere also, everything from mouse movement to video playback, everything is sharp and precise, and it wasnt like that with my Nv cards, So what ever card u get i would have a look at ATI 1st.

Sat May 08, 2004 11:51 am

well if u want a descent video card to play the live at maximum setting wait for geforce6800 ultra this card will rock all of ur game including far cry at the very high setting if u look at the review of screenshot of far cry on 6800ultra the graphics is so smooth because of the 16 pipeline on this card so wait on this card

Sat May 08, 2004 6:55 pm

Yeah Yeah, Got 1 have you, NOPE. Whats the point in buying a next gen card now, 2 play farcry maxed out, "yeah" but thats it and i can already do that with my 9800pro. Its not gonna play NBA Live/anyother current game any better than a 9800, but its gonna cost you £300 more. Right here and now an X800 or a 6800 for about £500 is not a smart buy and not realistic at all.

LETS STAY ON TOPIC PLS

yeah i know it's very expensive but this card x800,or 6800 will be a great card on the next gen game that will released like doom3,halflife2,stalker etc...

Good point soulstar, I was about to get the 6800 ultra--but why especially if the 9800 will be able to run Live 2005 at max next year as well. That's all I play on PC anyway. HMM--the 9800 will be a lot cheaper too by August when i wanna upgrade.

BTW--what's the best motherboard to get with the 9800?

Thu May 13, 2004 7:06 pm

i doubt the specs will be that high....i thnk the minimum specs to run the game will officially run around 733mhz or so. maybe 800. which suits me as i have a 1ghz still.

Sat May 15, 2004 12:08 pm

well i agree with u i think it will be best if the minimum requirement of the game is not too high to play on other people that had no descent card and proccessor

I dunno, somebody on there will Know 4 sure www.guru3d.com

I gotta say that i dont have 1 complaint about my 9800, the only thing that pisses me off is that i didnt get 1 sooner!

800mgz, No Way, the new info/SS quote a complete make over, thats GAME ENGINE, im stickin with my original prediction 1.2ghz MIN, 256 MB min, 64mb GPU. U know were at the heals of 64bit cpus clockin 5ghz+ and 40TB or ram, u wont see any big games released that spec at -1ghz .

U know i expect Bumpmapping this year, real time shadows(lighting perhaps,er maybe not, thats pushing it abit), a hell of alot more facial and more importantly BODY expressions, im talking real time "SWEAT" effect. No more energy bars(this aint street fighter, u know round 1 "F I G H T".
This is how it should be, start of game all the players movements are sharp and precise..... playing tough D and getting high on all there jumpshots then as the game goes on players become tired, but u can actualy see it by the way they move and react on court. So when u look at a player on court u can actualy see that he needs a rest like a real coach would!

 Please please please please please let my geforce2 play 05.....

Sat May 15, 2004 4:22 pm

Please, please let my pentium 3 (550 MHz) and old-skool nvidia RIVA TNT2 run '05, because chances are the computer that my dad says we'll "get really soon" won't come for 8 months at least. I can still (shockingly) run everything in Live on medium, except reflections off, shadows low, and stadium detail high (I need authentic stadiums.)

It trips me out sometimes that some people wont upgrade there computers. These games were meant to be played at high resolutions with the settings maxed out. I think if you don't want to spend the money to upgrade you should play the game on the Ps2 or buy an Xbox.

I know that not everyone can afford the best pc on the market but I really think that the minimum requirements that they state on the box can barely play the game with details turned up and would definately have to turn alot of stuff off to get the game to play decent. I know for a fact that without antialiasing the game is jaggy as hell especially in the beginning menu screen when the guy is bouncing the ball and stuff.

Mon May 17, 2004 2:44 pm

The specs will probably stay pretty much the same, or increase only very slightly such as to a 733 mhz CPU or something minute like that. Yes they will add in new graphics and stuff..but when you're talking MINIMUM specs, that's just the hardware needed to get the game RUNNING @ the lowest of all details with most of the optional graphics OFF @ 640x480. All the new bells and whistles that they're gonna add graphically just means that the spec needed to run the game WITH them on will be very high (ie. the RECOMMENDED spec).

I just bought a very cheap card on Ebay for $99 plus shipping. It is a 256MB DDR ATI Radeon 9600. I can now play Live Maxed Out with smooth gameplay. I can even play Hitman:Contracts and True Crime Maxed Out. I doubt if I will need to upgrade anytime soon as the 256MB and DirectX 9 and quad pipes makes this a great deal at $99 bucks and should support most of the newer games with DirectX 9 optimization. I totally recommend this card for the price conscious.

Can you play with post-filtering on high?

Tue May 25, 2004 7:08 pm

NOPE he cant....Not @ decent FPS. U got a good deal for $99 but ur still gonna struggle with most of the new releases this year, u wont be able to play many games maxed out. BTW whats with Hitman, i have all the games and i have played all 3 for combined 2 hours, what genre is the new game pigeon holed as, a 3rd person or a 1st person. I thought it would be like Max Pain style of gameplay but its not, and it almost certainly not a real FPS (N). Its also look like crap, i expected more  . Damn FARCRY, everything i play now is crap compared 2 it.

Man this got way off topic in a hurry... Man I "didn't" see that coming :D
