How do I hit a player in stride with a pass?

Postby mchakko on Sat Jun 04, 2005 1:39 pm

I finally tweaked my rosters enough that I'm ready to play the game a little............

I noticed that every time I pass the ball, the receiving guy stops what he's doing and turns, stands still, and catches it.

How do I hit a player who is cutting or running on a fast break without slowing down everything?

Is it just me or are the controls kind of sluggish this year? Controls seem more sluggish every year, with players doing animations instead of doing what you tell them...

You wanna hit a player?

Anyway, that's the sickness of NBA Live 2005. The fastbreaks suck. (N)

Wow, that nearly makes the game unplayable...

can any slider settings help things?

I wonder if the game speed were slowed, would the animations be relatively faster.

There aren't any sliders that affect this element of fastbreaks. It's an issue that's apparently been solved in NBA Live 06.

oddly, it doesn't seem as bad now that i tried playing against the cpu a little more. i was playing a 2 player game when it seemed really bothersome.

I can't figure out whether speeding up gameplay changes anything with regards to that, I think things seem a little smoother when things are sped up, but I'm not sure...

if u want a player not to stop and catch it when u pass it to him, then u must make sure he is running when u pass it. if u pass it when he's running ur player will even get a step ahead for a clean layup. i think alot of the times it helps if u point to the player u want to pass.

the best way is to pass it to the guy running and waving his hand...usually they catch it in stride...or use the direct pass which passes it to the closest player to the basket during the fastbreak

I figured out the fastbreak in Live 05. You can only run an effective break, like the one you mentioned when they catch it in stride, when there is a steal. It doesn't work on blocked shots or rebounds. Sometimes you can hit them in stride off of inbound passes, but that's it.

Distance is a big factor here.

A full court heave (throw / pass) will result in the receiver turning around, stopping, jumping, catching, landing and waiting before offensively fouling the defender who wasn't even in the same half of the court when the ball began its journey.

If the receiver has to turn around and jump, the fast break is over, go into your half court sets.

I find only short passes, ~ 1/4 of the length of the court will be consistently court in stride.

You are right it is frustrating to lose those few metres.

However in NBA 2002 or 03 receivers used to catch the ball BEHIND their heads on the fast break then continue for a throw-down without stopping for a breath. Not realistic.
