Basketball..

I was wondering why anyone would want to play a simulation of a game as stupid as basketball ?

Bwaaaaaaahhahaha  OK now that I've got your attention, let me firstly say Im joking .... really, Iam. I've never had the pleasure of playing basketball as, well, its not big in my country. I have however through playing NBA Live 2005, grown to appreciate the game.

My predicament however is as follows: Having never played the game or even watched an entire game, I have had to piece together the rules from playing NBA Live 2005. I pretty much think I understand most of the rules bar a couple regarding fouls and I was hoping that someone here could clarify them for me.

This is what I know about fouls: when a player commits a foul it counts as a personal foul and as a team foul, after 6 personal fouls a player is fouled out and must be substituted. The number of team fouls committed is reset to zero at the start of each quarter, and after ??? fouls in a quarter the team foul limit is reached.

Now this is where it gets shaky, if I foul a player in his half of the court the foul is taken from the side roughly in line with where the foul occured unless Im over the team limit in which case he goes to the line for 2. If I foul a player inside the 3 point line, goal area ?? He goes to the line for 2 unless he still makes the basket in which case its for 1, with the basket counting for 2. A foul committed outside the 3 point line gets taken from the side unless

1) the player was attempting to shot at the basket if which case he goes to the line for 3 unless he still makes the basket in which case its for 1, with the basket counting 3.

2) the team limit has been reached in which case he goes to the line for 2.

Is that right or have I missed the boat totally ??

thanks,

yeah the two cases are right, but u gotta inbound the ball after a normal foul, no matter where on the court he stands, you get free throws if u're foukd while shooting OR when u're fouled after the opponent team reached the team foul limit

(btw. offensive fouls don't count as teamfouls ;))

props to z-mac for that sig

If a player is fouled in the backcourt, the team will inbound the ball in the backcourt, fairly close to the half court line. No matter where on the court a player is fouled, they only go to the free throw line if:

1. They are in the act of shooting
2. The opponents are over the foul limit
3. The opposing team commits a flagrant or technical foul.
