Rebounding in 2005

Postby coldshade on Tue Jan 25, 2005 6:10 pm

Do you guys always box out before you go for the rebound? I normally do but in superstar level, guys just come out of now where and get the rebound in spite of the fact that you have better postion. Any suggestions on how to remedy this?

By the way, how do you rebound dunk using a joypad? :?:

Rebound dunk by clicking the 'dunk' button when the ball is in the air.

I use it on defence if my check is right beside the hoop.

Change your sliders I've bumped o rebounding to about 30, and d rebounding to about 60 for both user and cpu. Works well for me now. Although a good rebounder kills me like he should.

I usually box out. I've been using the tip-in more often than I did when I first got the game, though I still don't use the tip-dunk button all that often.

My current slider for user rebounding is 0. Should I increase it? What do you think Andrew? Its weird coz when I boxout I still get pushed out most of the time, it really gets irritating sometimes.

By the way, how do you rebound tip-ins? Using a joypad? :D

Yes, I use a gamepad. And yes, it might be helpful if you increase your rebounding slider from 0. ;)

Dunk tip it by pressing the "Dunk" button
Regular tip-in by pressing the "Shoot" button

Lately I've been trying to at least try pressing the box out button when a shot goes up. Sometimes it seems as if the tip button is too powerful.

Same here, but tip-ins tend to give you heaps of offensive rebounds and a bad FG%.

my slider for both User & CPU is 60 (defensively) & 40 (offensively).
and I always grab more rebounds than the opponent teams.

For defensive board
I will first predict the ball movement
-> control the last man (switch to him if possible)
-> box-out (if possible, but in most cases, it's too rush to do that)
-> jump!

For offensive board
"Timing" rules!

if I didn't remembered it wrong, yes, it's true.

anyway, I heard many people including you got this problem.
Would it be possible that it's a BUG in the slider?
Would the extreme values trigger the bugs?

Of course it's just my guess since the first or second step for testing a program is "test with extreme values".

If it really is a bug, try 1 and 99 might solve the prob.

I have to start getting in the habit of switching to last man.

i have both off and def rebound sliders on 0 and its alot more realistic because your just going by what the players ratings are.and like any player you got to keep your eye on the ball and position of your player is the most important.also you can push which way you want your player to go by pushing the d pad in that direction.

Box out works. You'll notice it when you bring ur big man out to block a 3 pointer. In the offensive side, it will be hard to get position so you might as well jump for the ball, unless your player is on the posion to start with. your box-out will work.

another thing is that if you come running for the rebound and your player jumps high enough, your chances for a reset is better. (include reb and strength factors.)

so the tip is, as soon as after a shot. select the last man and get urself a good position. or a faster flyer and run for the rebound.

please correct me if im wrong. thank you.

You can box out?

The worst thing is how easy it is to get rebounds on free throws, it's very annoying when you're playing against another person too because the offense dominates free throw rebounds.

I agree. box-out do work with that abuse. One counter though, get a shot blocker positioned. press the rebounder deep. hehehe. (Doesn't work against stronger players.)

I never box-out. It does not even cross my mind. Basically, I time my jumping out so good now that it does not matter who has the better position. Yes, rebounding is one of the top parts of my dynasty (Y) :P

I've found I am very effective at rebounding if I play defense with my center or power forward, but I normally just let my big men rebound by themselves and crash the boards with my point guard as well. If I'm having trouble rebounding I can use my center to stop that though. Also I don't box out, I just time my jump.
