How do you rate players?

I just want to know how players are rated in nba live. is it just the stats? and how do you rate those things like speed or offensive awareness?because i was looking at the ratings andrew gave to the players in v.104 and i cant understand how to rate players. for example, amare and dirk are two of the top players in efficiency and they get only about 83-86 (i think) in overall ratings. lebron is top 3 in steals and only has 82 while brevin knight is 92, and lebron has better efficiency than kobe bryant but kobe's 95 overall. im not saying that lebron is better than kobe, i just want to know how to rate them.

Different people have different views on players, that could account for some of the discrepancies between your supposed ratings and that actual ones. Also, 83-86 is a very good overall rating, note that only 4 players originally had ratings in the 90s, so I wouldn't base this game to other games which you have played, where the ratings were much higher or any system of number rating effiency you have placed in your mindset. To answer your question, although I do not officially know, I suppose both stats and how a player actually plays a game is watched for ratings, you would have to actually watch an NBA game to understand that people like Bruce Bowen and Doug Christie are key players, although their PPG and the such may not be as much as some stars, but you can nonetheless tell they are important players to the team.

Well, we'll see just how important Christie was to Sac-town soon enough... They basically traded defense for offense and we'll just have to see how well does that pan out for them in real life...

And we'll also see how much of a difference can Christie make on the defensive end in Orlando -> The team that has allowed most points this season...

For individual stats, you also have to look at the per 48 minute stats. Lebron averages more steals for example, but he also averages more minutes. Hence, his steal per 48 minute average would be lower. When I make CAPs, I use that as a guide.

I don't like to use too many stats to ratings formulas, as I feel they're too rigid or don't tell the whole story. I prefer to work in ranges. Certain ratings result in certain simulated stats and in-game performance, while the ranges allow for the whole "He's slightly better at 'X' than him" factor.

i like stats because i tend to be biased when rating a player. but downloading the nlsc rosters gives me more accurate ratings than rating players on my own.

but then again, i guess you are right.. probably stats are like that because of players belong to a particular team, like mcgrady having more pts per game when he the only all star contrary to like he is in houston, because other scorers can help him. anyway thanks..

I have found that using per-48 minute stats really produces accurate results. I have made many "retro" players, that is creating players for a specific season, and then simulating a season.
I have gotten very accurate simulations.
