GEFORCE fx 5200 (Any good)?

So after I found out that I cant play Live on my old card anymore (Ati All in WOnder 7500). I wanted to get the All in Wonder 9700 but they were laughing in my face how old it was. So they gave me the Geforce FX 5200 256mb.

How is this card to play Live with? I want to know before I unwrap it.

I have this card... I managed to run Live 2004 at max with it... Live 2005 is said to be a smoother game, so I (and you) shouldn't have problems... Be sure to download the latest drivers...

I installed it and I dont think its bad. NBA Live is the only game I play, so I will not spend more then 120 Euros on a graphic card.

Do as JohnnyKnoxville said and get either a 9600XT or 9800pro. Or as someone else suggested a Geforce 5900XT if you can still find one.

I run my game on a 9500pro coupled with an A64 3000+ @ 1024x768 max details w/ no AA or AF. Never drops below 75fps according to fraps.

The GeforceFX5200 is garbage. Go back to that place you bought it from and laugh in THEIR face for suggesting something so utterly retarded compared to a 9700.

Hmmm...it works fine for me, but I want to enjoy it more then just this year. I will probably do what you guys said and return it. I cleary asked for the return policies and I was able to return it and get my money back if I didnt like it.

What do you think...should I take my 6-8 250 pounds black friend with me?

When you upgrade from a bad card, I would try to get the best top of the line card, basically the one that will last me the longest. I had a crap (maybe todays standards) geforce 2 MX and when I upgraded I went straight to FX 5200 which was top at that time, I would rather go to the top card then buy a slightly better card each year or whatever.

its bottom of the current line..but if its better than what you have now....keep it for like a year if you cant fork out more.


its not that is a bad card or anything...its alright for most games out now..but in the future it will die off so quickly due to its weaknesses. 9800xt is good but pretty high up there on the $$$ meter

Wow you got ripped off. The 9700 is much better than a FX5200. Even the 9200 is considered better than the FX5200. 256 mb and 128 mb don't mean much difference...yet. For example, the 256 mb 9800 pro only slightly improves in fps than a 128 mb 9800 pro. A lot of people think spending extra cash to get a 256 mb is a waste of money. The most important thing to see is how many BITS (the bus width). That is why nobody should buy SE versions of Radeon cards. You will get ripped off but a lot of people interpret SE as special edition but it is really SHIT edition. The 9200SE and 9600SE are neutered 64 bit versions and the 9800SE is neutered down from 256 bit to 128 bit.

Anyways, those people BS you! The 9700 is MUCH better. You are comparing a 128 bit card (5200) to a 256 bit card (9700). The 9700 pretty much DESTROYS the 5200 is every benchmark test by A TON. I only hope you did not pay the same price for your 5200 as a 9700. Next time do some research before buying a new GPU. Here read this:

Get a 9600XT...but if you are you may as well as get a 9800 pro which can find for $40 USD more. But make sure you have at least a 400 Watt PSU if you get the 9800 pro. 350 is the minimum but if you have a ton of stuff inside your PC at least a 400 W should be minimum.

The 9800 pro is a 256 bit GPU. The 9600XT is still 128 bits. You can also overclock a 9600 to a 9600 pro since they are the same core. But the 9800 pro has 8 pipelines where as the 9600 has 4. If you can get a 9800 pro with a r360 core (one company I forget which one distributes their 9800 pro with that core) because you can flash it to a 9800XT. A 9800XT will last you in terms of optimal gaming for the next two years especially if you want to play games like HL2.

If you want to only play port games a 9600XT is fine because PS2 or XBox port games like Live 2005 are not made to be high demanding since they are first optimized for console systems rather than PCs.

Also if you play D3D games more ATI cards are generally considered better while Nvidia is more known for their OpenGL capabilities. Don't buy any FX series those are garbage and their Direct 9 support is horrible. If you want to buy Nvidia and don't want to spend too much get the middle end 6600 when it comes out.

Its was the shizznit, but its well past its sell by date. You gotta get somekind of upgrade, mainly because you need DirectX 9 hardware support on your graphics card to play Live 05.
An Fx5200 would do, but you could do alot better, depending on your system specs you should take alook at 96/9800 ATI series.

Hey Geforce 2 MMx was a great card in its day, it was 1 of the big boys back then. I still have one boxed in the shed, i think it was the 1st Open GL main stream card for gamers .

This was the card I had for about 2 years, so I'm not unfounded in telling you this.

1. Open your PC an remove the card.
2. Grab a piece of old cloth and dip it in kerosene.
3. Wrap the kerosene cloth around the card and set it somewhere you wont burn your house down.
4. Burn that bitch.

Nvidia pulled a fast one on everyone who bought this card, there are Geforece 2 that had better performance than this card. And since its only Direct X 7, You need an upgrade to support the lighting option anyway.

Honestly, those 3d glasses with red and blue lenses will do a better job than an MX440.
