Just Picked Up Live 2005 for PC!!! Screenshots Inside!!

Postby jAkUp on Fri Oct 29, 2004 9:19 am

Hey guys! I just picked up Live 2005 for PC! Graphics are nice and dunk competition is alot of fun, although a little difficult. Anyone know how to do alley-oop dunks without a joypad? I can't seem to figure it out...

Here are some screenshots
P4 3.0 @ 3.6
1GB DDR 500
74GB Raptor
Geforce 6800 Ultra 450/1.25

Ugghhh, those jerseys are hideous, I hate that the jersey textures are smaller now. I thought graphics were supposed to be better this year.

download this program called "Fraps"

it captures video and can save screenshots in jpeg format.

I think that's what he used for those screenies.

hey JAKUP.... tell me something... the graphics on your comp seem real good, but tell me how the gameplay is like.... are the FrameRates really fast, does it look smooth when u play a 5 on 5 exhibition?????
cuz I got some problems and I got no clue why its happening.. it basically looks like my framerates are slow and retarded.. happens in my Fifa 2005 also... but my Madden 05 and NHL 05 run flawlessly when it comes to the framerate and how smooth the game plays... for some reason I can never get Fifa or NBA live to play smooth.. seems like the framerates are retarded... and all my settings have been tweaked for maximum performance.. so its not a typical problem.. Im starting to think that the game is like that itself..... I got a Nvdia Gforce 128mb... 512mb ddr, 1.4ghz, Sound Blaster Audigy LS 24 bit..etc.....

so its not a problem with my computer... ok I got Live 05 for my PS2 and my PC.. I just wanna know if u could tell me the difference between the framerates between the PS2 version and PC version, because from what I see, my PS2 framerate is extremely smooth, but my PC is like half as bad....

Another high-quality image file, but this time it is not a proprietory (sp?) format. ;)

I suggest downloading IrfanView (Google for the link), it's a free program to view and convert images from more or less all known formats.

well this fraps program can capture screenshots while playing the game (and saves it in jpeg format). It also captures video (and saves in avi format).

The framerate is very smooth. I usually get a constant 85fps... check out www.fraps.com to see what kinda framerate you are getting. Have you tried tweaking the display options?

Yeah your video card has to be able to support certain shaders and stuff in order to work with the lighting effect. Besides NBA Live 2004 didn't have this lighting effect which is more or less a new DirectX feature for newer video cards that support it. So just because it worked for '04 doesn't mean it has to work for '05. Things change but unfortunately some people can't afford to upgrade hardware when a new game comes out that needs certain requirements

Postby Chris-CP3-Paul on Sat Oct 30, 2004 7:03 am

Hey JakUp. thankz for the tip on the FRAPS program... I got it and managed to really see whats going on when I play games... well I gotta say what I saw disqusted me.... my framerate for most of my games is horrible!!!!! its weird because I know guys who have crappier graphic cards than mine who experience better framerates than me... anyway here's some FrameRate info on some of the more graphically demanding games I have on my comp...... I run all my games on 1024x768 resolution, because theres not really much of a difference with lower res...

1)Rome Total War runs anywhere between 10-30 fps in battle sequences
2)The Sims 2 runs anywhere between 10-25 fps (very crappy & annoying)
3)NHL 2005 runs at '35fps' (but it feels very smooth, no complaints)
4)Madden 2005 runs at '25fps' (once again feels smooth, no complaints)
5)NBA Live 2005 runs at around 15-20 Fps !!!? during games, practice runs at 50 Fps... here are my settings..
-Lightning- OFF
-Reflections- OFF
-Crowd- OFF
-Res 1024-768 (makes no difference in 5on5 gameplay still runs at 20Fps)
-Tex. Filtering- Anisotropic (makes no difference in FrameRate)
-Triple Buffer- OFF (makes no difference FrameRate)
-V-Sync- OFF (makes no difference FrameRate)
-Player Detail- LOW (makes no difference FrameRate)
-Bench- OFF (makes no difference FrameRate)
-Enviroment- High (makes no difference FrameRate)

SO.........uhmmm..... well I dont know what to make of all this, and I know a lot about computers, I friggin worked for Microsoft so I'm hoping one of you guys would fill me in... I honestly think it might be my comp, maybe my motherboard or my processor, I got a Compaq Presario 1.4ghz, Nvidia Geforce 128mb, Sound Blaster 24bit 5.1 SS.... uhmmm... so yea, I'm starting to feel its my graphics card, what do you think ??
I wanna know what graphics card runs any game on at least 80 FPS because the fukkers at the computer stores will bullshit me as long as I buy something, so I cant trust them, only people I can believe is gamers like you guyz.... so well, Imma go play some GTA San Andreas to get my mind off this crap... holla back if u got something, cuz I'm stuck..

You're probably either CPU limited or your graphics card is old. Not sure which Geforce you got, but it won't matter if you couple it with a slow CPU. Your system needs to be balanced in order to take advantage of fast graphics cards. NO point buying the latest, fastest geforce6800ultra if you have a cpu < 2.8ghz or equivalent.

If you wanna run everything you got @ 80fps minimum i suggest you upgrade your cpu to an athlon64 and get a geforce6800 or Radeon X800.

I think it's most definitely your CPU. I have a geforce FX 5200 (128 mb) and a 3 gig Intel and I don't have Live yet (hopefully will get on weekend) but I have the Sims 2 and it runs perfect maybe 60 fps so my guess is it's your CPU.

Another thing is, what is your RAM? I have 1024 ram here.

BishiBashi boy....
Yea its a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 128mb card.... but yea offcourse if I wanna run everything perfect I should get the Athlon 64 like you said, I dont spend a lot of time on my computer so when I bought my computer parts all I wanted is a decent combination of hardware that would run my games equally as my PS2, my system specs double all aspects of my PS2 but they run games twice as slow......and all I'm saying is with the setup I got right now I should be running NBA live at least 50 FPS because I got double the processor requirements and triple the memory and graphic card requirements according to EA's official System Requirements, I think EA should just stop BS'ing and really tell us exactly what we need to run the game at a standard 70fps, instead of always givin the same system reguirements that dont really add up....
now I gotta question about a regular 128mb graphics card such as mine, what FrameRate should a 128mb card run on a normal game like EA sports titles?? this question refers to users who have 128mb graphic cards... so if yall got answers.. lemme know[/quote]

Postby Chris-CP3-Paul on Sat Oct 30, 2004 10:16 am

Alcoholic yea the requirements say u need 256mb ram, and 700 mhz Pentium 3 to run the game 'NORMALLY' and I got 512 mb ddr ram, 1.4 ghz Pentium 3.... so I really think EA bs's when it comes to system requirements, cuz I mean I keep my computer runnin smooth constantly, no spyware, no uneeded startup programs, etc.... an my NBA Live still runs at 15-20 FPS in a 5 on 5 game......
I think they should start listing what you need to run a game at a normal frame rate, (I honestly dont know what a normal FrameRate would be for a PC version of NBA Live, but from what I hear its around 70 or 80 fps, correct me if I'm wrong)
The public should be getting system requirements so we can run our game the way its meant to run, and not the minimum requirements needed to BARELY play your game, cuz nobody really wants to buy a game that plays like crap on your comp...
right?
