Dynasty Points

Postby JohnnyKnoxville on Tue Sep 21, 2004 4:00 am

This has prolly been talked to death, but I couldn't find a suitable thread...

Anyway, one thing that kinda bugged me in Live04 - you use Dynasty Points to train your guys. Now, I expect that you'll need those points to scout rookies in Live05.
However, unless they changed this, you only earn points if you play the games yourself, thus making it nearly impossible to do training and scouting if you just wanna play a few games and sim the rest of them.

I for my part usually have one Dynasty (28, soon 29 games only though) where I play every game, but I also have one or two Dynasties running where I just play the occassional game and sim the rest to get through a lot of seasons quickly. And I sure hope I wont be unable to scout rookies etc. just because I prefer to sim...

Did this make sense? Anyone with me on that?

Well I personally like that it encourages you to play the season. If you just sim, you'll miss trade offers too. I like the idea of training to build up guys ratings too. In live 04 you do get limited points for simming. Like you get points for winning, making playoffs, championships, all nba first team, that kind of thing. When you play, you get much more points - like 250 points if all 12 guys get a score. I think this way will ultimately bring you into your dynasty more than a quick sim-up.

I also like to sim a lot of the games to see how i can 'manage' my dynasty and it was really annoying that i couldnt get a lot of points. hopefully they havent done what madden did in 04 where if you were playing a game and then saved it in the middle you would lose the points you had earned in the game.
what i mean is, if you start to sim a game then intervene at say three quarter time you would get dynasty points from the generated things that had happened in the game. i.e.
garnett getting 10 rebounds in the first half, or all your players scoring.

that'd be cool cos then you'd still get to play, sim AND collect dynasty points to scout and train.

just my two cents anyways... :)

well in NCAA football 2005, they give to like 200 points that represent how much time you spend recruiting
I suspect theyll have a certain amount of time or points in a season to spend scouting

I think it's extremely lame if you have to earn dynasty points to scout rookies. Scouting rookies should be a basic task, that you just do, not earn.

well in the IGN article about the Warriors dynasty he only sim games but still scout rookies so I guess you can either scout without dynasty point or you do get points while siming

i always have 1 franchise where i play every game in a 28 season, like johnny said he does. i also sim a bunch of different franchises. i dont play a single game i just sim all games and try to act as a gm only. now i dont go and sim all 82 games at once or anything i sim each game and see if i need to mix anything up and what not. so i wont miss anything from the pda but i also wont have any points to train/scout players.

so basicly to answer the question, yes i am with you knoxville

I like this idea. Has it been confirmed anywhere that you need dynasty points to scout rookies? Basically I'm asking if QBallers idea could actually be in the game and we just don't know it.

i want to see the scouting idea be combined with maddens owner mode. you earn money during the season and you use that money to hire scouts to check out potential players. the better the scout the more he would cost.

Well, my whole post was made assuming that we need points to scout, simply because I don't believe you will have unlimited scouting ressources nor that all teams have the same ressources, for example.
So the only way to simulate some realism here is to either use points or money to limit your scouting options...

As for

That's not really the point, though. Like Sauru, I like to play GM only sometimes, while in another dynasty I will play all my games. While I agree that you incentives to play the game are good, I just hope that it does not eliminate the option to just act as the GM simply because you cannot do all the things you need to do to keep your franchise afloat.

EDIT: Just to clarify, if I sim, I sim a max of 3-4 games at once, sometimes I sim every game individually. It's not "lets get through 25 seasons as fast as possible", I just prefer to sometimes let the players play and only do the white collar stuff myself ;)

thats exactly how i feel. my fav part of sports games usually is all the gm stuff anyway. now dont get me wrong i love the actual game and its only 1 step behind, if that, so i love both. thats why i do both.

also i am concerned with, will us 29 game players earn enough points to do what we have to do? playing 82 games would net you so many points, will only playing 29 hurt us?

IIRC in 2004 the prices are adjusted depending on season length. At least the full-season coaches are cheaper when you only play 28 games.

ahh i didnt notice this as i never played any other length. also like i said i have not really simmed a franchise in live yet, only in madden, but now that nba live got a franchise worthy of a gm only style of play, i will definetly do it alot.
