IGN VIDEO CLIPS WTF????

Postby bestclubowner on Fri Sep 10, 2004 2:09 pm

ok so im looking at the ign video clips of 05 and i am VERY dissapointed. ok first of all the game play is SLOW. the player movement looks funky like they move slow and as if their in space or something. it just doesnt have the same feeling. also when u get a rebound the camera switches in the opposite direction just like ncaa 04, which made me dizzy. also the players look funky, with their shadows and such. the graphics are weird. was this the completed version of the game? maybe i need to just play it but just looking at it i was not impressed at all. is it just me?

I'll admit the game does have a different look to it. I think it looks different in a good way, but I suppose I can see how someone else might see it as "funky." I myself was very impressed with the video and am looking forward to actually playing it for myself.

does anyone notice that the camera rotates in the OPPOSITE direction when 1 team gets the rebound. also the players look floaty. they look like they float down court.

Yea the camera does rotate, not too nice, I didn't notice the floaty thing though, I'll check that out......

I haven't seen the vids, but the camera spinning thing is almost certainly a camera angle thingy. If it's not, they've gone to the woods on this one.

I believe that there are the classic camera angles so that us old-timers can still play. I believe this is picked for a demo because it shows more of the arena and is closer to the players. Press box camera is pretty far away...

Let's just wait and see what they come up with when we get the game. Don't panic just yet. And it is not the final version, not yet. The different magz etc. get a beta or something that is almost finished to review so they can come up with something positive to say before the game is released.

I don't understand why you would be concerned with game speed when you can decide how fast or slow you'd like to make it in the settings.....

For myself, I was impressed, they totally addressed so many problem areas. Don't worry though, you opinion may change when you actually get to play it......

i dont think u guys are understanding what im saying. ok, on baseline low angle (ive been playing on that angle for 2 years) when u get the rebound or get the ball the camera goes into the other direction like counter clockwise. but now its going clockwise when one of the teams gets the ball so its making me dizzy and it feels weird.

We DO understand, you feel like the camera that you have used for years has been changed for the worst. My point is not to fret because we saw an unfinished product. I totally understand your qualms about camera issues as it's an important part of the gaming experience.

Does it really matter, it's a 180 degree turn either way you look at it... I don't see the difference from last year. So one year turned left, and another year turned right. Didn't make me dizzy.

i don't think the person playing the game did a good job of showing off the gameplay.

I TOTALLY agree, in fact, they seemed kind of garbage when you really think about it. The basketball decision making was atrocious, didn't use enough special moves to create space, and their defensive acumen made the _allas Mavericks look like the Dallas Mavericks. I'd destroy that dude!

He also missed a lot of oppurtunities to find the open man. Several times he had TMac running on the left side on a break and didn't realize it. Perhaps he was playing bad on purpose because he didn't want to beat the comp too bad and make it look too easy. But if that's the case, just turn up the difficulty.

Sauru, what camera angle do you use? For years I've been a "left to right" guy (horizontal) since that was the original camera from Lakers vs. Celtics and other basketball game from the eighties and early to mid-nineties......

But when EA followed Sega and made the vertical camera their default camera I had to adjust. All the fellas preferred this new default camera and despite all my bitching and moaning they wouldn't budge. Alas, I was outnumbered and had to learn to adjust...

Now, I love playing that way. My camera of choice is "Baseline High" with minimal zoom and no closeups in the paint.

i am still a left to right kinda player. last years they didnt really have any cam i loved so i picked the most left ot right one and zoomed it all the way out with auto zoom off. it seems like this new up and down thing is the wave of the future, and of the now i guess. i just hope they leave a cam in for the left/right guys left in the world, like me.

Same here. It may not show off the graphics the best, but it is the best for maximum court vision. If Jason Kidd were a gamer he would chose this camera  .

So true and I NEVER thought I'd say that. I finally had to concede to the fellas that they were right in that regard but it's hard to teach an old dog new tricks.

SHUT UP.

Did you know you can change Camera Angles?

Did You Know The Guy playing the game was playing slow paced for realism?

Did You Know those are new graphics?

Did you ever stop to think that you were watching a video?

Did you also know that the graphics were changed but it's identical to 2004?

....That's what I thought....

I'm with you Sauru! I had a look at playing with different angles but the spinning around sh!t when u take a rebound made it hard for me to kick out a quick pass for a break... it kind of threw me off. So im still left/right.
Although as a former player I certainly do concede that the angle used in the video is indeed the angle an old PG like me should be using :)

I always use the left to right gameplay ever since '95. Even if the gameplay is slow, and some things are not up to par, that's why we can tweak them with gameplay sliders :) I hope nobody forgot about those.

well sorry if i was sounding too bitchy its just that the camera thing bothered me. on the other hand the dunks are way cooler, faster, and better sounding. but seriously, what was up with the shadows on the players? it looked like they were ghosts or something. how do u guys know its not a finished product?

Yeah, the lighting is not too hot, but I'm sure it's not finished for another couple weeks before it goes gold. They can still make some modifications, but as for some, such as animations, I think that part would be too late. But you never know till the game's shipped!
