Kinda Feels like im being held

Postby BiggaAdams on Fri Nov 14, 2003 12:05 pm

Does anyone else feel like its pretty tough to get around the defenders this year and that your being held a lot of the time? I tried default sliders, and those other sliders that are floating around and still feel like im being held i know i've only played it for a little while so im gonna need to get used to it. Also how often are you guys open for shots? And how do you feel about the mid range and close range shooting?

Yea I think so too..... especially in the post!
Most of the shots I put up in the post seems like a struggle....

I usually try to get myself open using the off-ball switch.

Yeah, and sometimes when you shoot a shot down low and msis and the balls right in front of your guys face he cant grab it because he lost balance landing off the shot which is odd

Yeh a few peeps are having this same problem. I've tried messing around with the sliders some, but it doesn't seem to fix the problem. It's even tougher because this game has a huge learning curve and the controls are gimped because you can't change how the offense and defense controls link up.

You can get around people and manage to get in toward the basket once you figure out how to use the pro-hop button, but personally it feels like the game is doing too much of the control at that point instead of me driving to the basket. I would much rather prefer if the pro-hop was more like the drive button in Live 2001 when you are out near the 3-point line and you want to try to turn the corner on a defender. Then you can double-tap for a perimeter pro-hop and then just auto-pro hop closer to the basket or in the key area.

Turbo doesn't seem to do the trick either, the computer manages to push you back out almost rediculously most of the time. I get on the fast break sometimes and there is a guy running parallel with me, but then he makes contact and I am pushed straight backward even though I'm running turbo.

So far this has been a small, but critical blemish on an otherwise outstanding basketball game.

Yea that's gay.....
It also happens when the AI slaps the ball out of your hands.... your player won't be able to get the ball even though it's right infront of him.

I think the post game is kinna weak in this game....

Turbo doesnt really even feel like its needed in this game, the prohop almost seems like cheating if you over use it. Other than that the game is pretty damn great.

yea the post game is a little screwed up b/c they always double team, and then when they dt your guy panics and can never dribble out of it or bust through it..... if no dt then u cant get a shot over the guy unless u fade its always an in air collision shot or the uglyhook shot...i dont like that hook shot i havent seen a player that really shoots one like that

Try lowering CPU on-ball defense slider.

I have mine at 40. You lower it too much and you dont get a realistic game. However, some of you may not want a simulation game...so you can switch to arcade mode and adjust the sliders from there if desired.

Here are some of my sliders that might help you cuys out who want more freedom to move...

Game speed - 50
User Freestyle effectiveness - 60
User On ball defense - 60
Cpu On Ball defense - 40

I lowered mine to zero and I still get pushed around a ton. I'm not sure if its the players though either so gonna check and see.

You should also increase User Freestyle effectiveness...like i mentioned in my post above. If you wanna increase the game speed..you should prolly increase User On Ball defense so the CPU doesn't run none stop fast breaks on yah.

I put both CPU and USER On-Ball Physical Defenses on 40.

I HATE the bumping. I mean if I lower theirs I don't get bumped but I raise mine the bump works to their advantage as it gives room for them to go directly into a pro hop.

Ask Tim Duncan about a game I just played against the nets using Yohance's USER on-ball D set to 60. K-Mart got the ball in the paint then TD bumped him and K-Mart immediately pro hops to the hoop.

I know there are moves to create space in reallife but that bump is ridiculous.

I used to have a hard time on the post too but after some games i've found a way to be successful on the post. With default settings, i just back down the opponent and throw a hook shot, i seldom get blocked with that shot, but if i see that my player's foot is inside the semi circle under the rim, i press the dunk button and most of the time my player will dunk the ball in unless he gets blocked.

The gameplay is so realistic that when you see a double team coming you have to pass the ball out and pass it again to the post, most of the time your post player will not be double teamed anymore and you can just back down your opponent and make the shot.
