i posted this under another thread but i thought it need its own:
ud think ea would try and make things easier for us games. save us fucking around witha ll the little things. mind the language. like have 2 defualt settings for sliders. one realistic. one simulation so 4 ppl who like to have a exiting game rather han realistic. and also the rating sceme for ppl. wouldnt it be better if the made the ratings on ppls avg stats. so say for fg% say they guy shoots 80% avg make his rating 80 for fgoals.??? so for creating ppl or changing ratings it would be some much easier to play around with. giving us more time to play the actuall game.

But what if a guy shoots from everywhere, hands in his face, contact and all, and all another another guy does is shoot open spot up jumpers off screens, and another guy is camped under the basket all the time dunking and laying, and they all end up having the same %? A much better shooter is bound to shoot more, and in higher pressure situations, and may then have a lower FG%, so they need a wider range of ratings to accomodate this.
I dont quite understand your other part, simulation and realistic seem very similar to me. A sim tries to capture realism. But going by what you said, couldn't you take the default slider settings as one setting, and play arcade for the other. Or fiddle with the sliders once, then save them and it is done. I havent played the game, but the sliders seem like a fantastic idea.

yeah arcade not sim. but ea are the creaters. they should be able to set a realistic sliders setting to save us players messing around so we can get on with it and play. understand??? and with the fg% its would all come into account. so say like u said some one that always has a hand in his face and some one that hits open, that would also come into with the skil of the player. i see ur point though. i guess a good player would get double teames alot more. but they could makeit easier i still think.

Yeah I understand, but I suppose EA tries to make the default sliders as middle ground as they can, but the skill level of gamers would vary so much, that it is then up to the individual to tweak the sliders to make the game perfect for them. One person for example may have a problem with turnovers, so they turn them down, whereas another player may get swatted every time he penetrates, so he has to turn them down. This way it is fully customisable so the game can never(in theory) be too hard or too easy in one aspect of the game, and therfore overall..
On your other point, that is kind of what I was saying. The skill of the player with regards to shooting is determined by his FG rating, which is why using the players percentage as a rating wouldnt work...

If you bind the field goal rating to the field goal percentage... Well that just doesn't work. Player do have the good days as well as the bad days. Days when they get doube teamed and days when they are just hammering the ball through the hoop.

And one thing you certainly miss is the fact the the field goal percentage counts every shot the player makes during a game... Be it a normal jumper, three point shooter, lay-up or a dunk... Or even one of those tear-drop shots.

So there just cannot be a field goal rating that just describes the field goal percentage of a shooter...

And that's the bottom line...

I had a damn infuriating game over the weekend in real life... We lost by And 1... And that's just bad playing. Well it was our second game of the season with a brand new team so it ain't all bad. We were 20 down at the half, so those big comebacks do happen in real life.
