Is this game worth it?

Postby frontspin on Mon Oct 20, 2003 10:25 am

Im thinking of getting the game when the price gets low, cause it always does in about 3-4 weeks, i live in Canada, and its 49.99 at the nearest EB, and it goes down to 29.99 pretty fast, but since most of you played it, is this year worth it? Or should I wait till next year? And they didnt have customs this year too huh?

You better buy it. Its way better than last years. You can change the shoes on any player. Freestyle control is better than last years. More moves and combinations.

Trust me, if you dont play it you will crack. You may not be able to last. What if you die before next year? Its a long way away. Why dont you rent it?

Maybe

I don't think it's $49 worth of game (Xbox). There are faults as others mentioned. It's not like Madden where it's "perfect" out of the box. I still don't know if I would keep mine yet or go back to my modified Live 01 on PC.

I've been waiting and waiting for a Live game that I could be proud to own. I may just give up this year like I did for last year version.

I'm big with custom team, which is not there and the "ice skating" is begining to really bother me.

its better than the older live games but still lacks alot. ea needs to stop wasting time on useless stuff(shoes, and those stupid cut scenes) and spend more time on things that mean something (franchise offseason and gameplay)

If you are not sure it's $49 worth, take a look at ebay. You can get Live 04 for about $35 the going price. I think you can't complain at $35.

Frankly, I didn't think it was worth the $6 rental. I ended up returning it two days before it was even due. I think what bothered me the most (besides franchise mode sucking) is the fact that with so many new animations, you don't have the same feeling of control as Live 2003.

The ball handler, for example, automatically turns his body to the defender to protect the ball, which leads to a lot of awkward jump passes, and makes using freestyle moves difficult because you don't necessarily move forward.

I also miss being able to do a simple crossover to switch hands with a button instead of having to do some elaborate freestyle move.

Also, maybe its just how I had the auto-subs set (50-60), but your starters don't get subbed back in automatically after the half.

Don't get me wrong, the game has it's strong points. It's nice to finally have in-game injuries. The sliders are a welcome addition. And the new animations make for a more realistic game (except for all the jump passes). But IMO it's not a great improvement over 2003, and as usual, they managed to screw up things that worked fine in previous versions while adding a bunch of useless crap.

Oh yeah ... a feature we all waited for so long. Sorry ... but changing shoes would be the last point on my list if I would have to list the improvements.

But what hasnt been answered sufficiently yet is the gameplay. Is it possible to play 12 minute quarters and get realistic results?
