Discussion about NBA Live 2004.

I was just playing my Raptors against the Knicks. I went down by 15 or so in the second quarter as I wasn't playing very well. I stopped at halftime and picked it up again this morning determined to win the game (I have lost 2 in a row before this). I pulled my way back until I was up by 2 heading into the 4th by playing tight D and hitting my shots inside.
With about 3.5 minutes left in the game I was up by 4. I lost by 22. Yup, you read that right. I was still playing just as hard, taking good shots with a balanced court most of the time. One play I remember as standing out, I had ran the play through, passed the ball inside to my C, he missed the shot and the Knicks got a 3 on 0 fast break...that doesn't seem right to me, not when I have a balanced offencive set which I have run, where my pg, sg and sf are all outside the 3pt line. Anyway, they just hit every single shot, including about 6 guarded 3's by VanHorn.
I'm not whinging or screaming that the computer cheated...hey, I had just gone on a nice run myself, but at the same time...3 minutes in the game and they score like 40 points. That is a little out of whack.

What level did you have the game on?
I usually just play on starter but I went to all-star with the Hornets against the Nets and it was insane. They would steal or intercept the ball like 2 out of 3 times and would fastbreak everytime I was catching up, they'd then go up by like 20 within one minutes.

It happens. you go cold. It's really frustrating. But last night the opposite happened to me. I was Dallas playing against Philly. I clawed my way back after being blown out in the first half.
it was tied with 22 seconds left. Iverson hit a lay up and Marv goes "Iverson for the WIN!!!". so Philly is up with 1.7 seconds left. Game over right? WRONG!
Time out!
I inbound to Nash beyond the arc, he bullet passes in to Lafraentz (who had been stinking it up the entire game), Lafraentz goes up for the mid-range jumper (yep. you can hit them!) and sinks it at the buzzer.
Basket was reviewed but it counted.
In OT i go down by 4 early, then Nowitzki takes over and starts lighting it up. 10 consecutive points by Nowitz in OT. Didn't matter if there was a hand in his face. He was draining everything. all jump shots too. I ended up winning by 8 points. This was on All-Star by the way.
I don't really have a problem at all with mid-range jumpers. i'm not really sure what people are talking about. I did turn the mid-range sliders up to about 70 (both CPU and USER). That may have made the difference. Also, if you go to practice mode and practice the mid-rangers, you'll notice they are totally possible. you just gotta release the ball at the right time.
but anyways... oh yeah, my point... I've gone cold in the 4th more often than hot... But it is possible for the CPU to go cold too. i've seen it.

I played Raptors @ Knicks and I was up by 3 at half but all of a sudden the Knicks went crazy and Van Horn was owning me.
Lost by alot.

Does Live 2004 have an in-game save?? or do you mean you left it on the whole time?

Well...yeah...
It's hard to get an open midrange jumpshot so it's tough...I use a lot of fadeaways in the game now because they tend to fall...
I noticed that I play the same way through all four quarters but in the 4th it seems like I can't hit anything...all my inside shots etc that kept me in through the whole game start bricking. It seems pretty consistent...

I think he left it on the whole time, if I'm not mistaken EGarret confirmed that there is NO ingame save feature.

Nice to see that people are using the sliders to make the game more realistic...

Mr. Shane, hope you don't mind...
I loved your review of the game so I posted it in a Chicago Bulls forum. They were asking questions about NBA Live 2004, so I figured that your review was best. Don't worry, I mentioned that it came from someone with the handle of "Mr. Shane" from an NBA Live fan site. Somebody replied saying that you should work for a video game magazine.
By the way, I'm new here guys. I bought Live the day it came out and am loving more and more everyday. I played online with PS2 and had a couple very competitive games. I'm looking forward to participating in this forum.

That's quite alright, just go back and put my real name, Shane Hefty, for an ego boost.

Make sure you post what I added tonight about the dynasty errors, too, I don't want people to read what I said, buy the game, and then be pissed when they get hosed in the dynasty mode by bugs.
Oh, I used to be a journalism major, but I switched to English, so that may be why they said that.
