Unanswered questions

Postby king edz on Sat Oct 18, 2003 4:21 pm

After reading through the posts, I can pretty much work out myself what is good and bad in the game, but three questions have not been answered that well. Can someone give me a definate answer on these? We in Oz dont get the game till the 3rd(say some) or the 10th(say others) on console, and so I am relying on these boards to decide whether to switch back to Live after giving ESPN a go last year.

1. If you DONT simulate the free agency signing period, do the star players still get released from their respective teams, and are they therefore available as a min. wage signing? If so, can you change the team you control during this period to try and sign the star players on each team as a way of getting around this?

2. Can you or can you not add nba store purchases to players other than a created one? Can you use retro uniforms during the season?

3. I read something about retiring numbers of players and all time records. Are either of these incorporated into the game? ie.. Do your superstar players get their numbers retired and able to view, and say if Sean Rooks scored 101 points, would that be a new all-time record?

Cheers..

2. Yes you can add shoes, gears and socks to any players that you buy from the nba store.

I'm playing a dynastic season with the rocket. I bought a few Nike Aird Jordan. They aren't available for Steve Francis and some other players. I was able to put them on Yao, Rice, Griffien and Mobley.

3. Yes.

Cheers Ed, you have been a fountain of info for everyone here, much appreciated.
Can anyone answer my first Q - Whether or not the free agent bug is an issue when NOT simming FA signings. Also whether or not you can use retro uni's during a game in dynasty...
This game isnt looking as bad as I have been lead to believe.

Thanks fellaz..

If you can use the gear from the nba store then how do you put the team headbands on players. I've benn trying to figure out a way to put the NBA headband on J-O'Neal but I can't figure it out. But changing the shoes is a pretty sweet option.

You can use retros in dynasty.

The free agent bug isnt that bad really. The CPU usually resigns star players. (i only went thru 1 season) If you enter free-agent signing it wont happen.

Thanks mate..
This game really doesnt seem that bad to me, ill definately be getting it when it comes out here. Some people seem pissed, but I guess that happens with any game. As long as it is better than 2001, which I dont think would be too hard to do..

You can only give Nike shoes to Nike-brand players?

That's weird imo, 10 years down the road, maybe Francis signs with another shoe company because his current contract expired, anyways it's a small thing, no worries, just thought it was a bit weird. :?

Actually king edz, the free agent bug is still bad. I signed Kobe (overall 98) after Year 1, and it seems that his team didn't think he was important enough to resign... At Year 3, I have pretty much all the superstars in the league due to the bug and constant trading (which I love to do).
Year 3 roster:
Yao, Duncan, Garnett, Kobe, B Davis, Dirk, Pierce, Iverson, Ricky Davis, Gary Payton, Tony Parker, C Webb, Pau Gasol, LeBron James, Slava Medvedenko. (I had to switch James off of the the IR with Tony parker just to play Lebron)
It seems like another bug that I don't win all of my games, too. :x

It seems as though if you don't sim it, most of the top players are signed.
Because Duncan, Kobe and Garnett got signed. Only Iverson was a top player that didn't get signed.

Haha, is it because Iverson never showed up for training camp practice? hahhaha That'll be funny as hell if its in the game.

Kobe is 98?!

I think thats waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too high. I mean, if Kobe is 98, that means Jordan could only be one point higher. And I'd like to see what they put for Kobe's fg rating compared to MJ's. I mean Kobe only shoots 45% while MJ shot 53% in his prime. Even when you account for era changes you still know there is a big difference.

Jordan is the only player 97+? What's Wilt Chamberlain's ratings?

Yes, but you can give them to anyone that has a contract with anyother company but adidas, nike, and reebok.

The thing about kobe and jordan being 97: Kobe has his ratings higher in some categories than jordan, same as jordan.

I think if the computers and the user were given more points, the problem would be solved.
so maybe editing salary.ini will solve it? (when the PC version comes out)

Kobe is 98?!

He was 98 at the beginning of year 2 when he was a free agent, I sorted the overall rating column and he was the top with 98.
