The obligatory problems with Live 04 thread

Thu Oct 16, 2003 2:57 am

1. If you want to play a ranked game you cannot play with fatigue
You have to play 5 min quarters
You have to play all-star

2. There does not appear to be any way to have auto-subs while playing online even if you turn on fatigue

3. Court is too small, seems to be too crowded

4. Players turn around to catch all passes, 2K2 anyone

5. Why in the hell would you put 50 sliders in the game and not go into detail about each one in the manual??
EDIT: Let me give an example for this one.... to turn on auto-subs it is a slider, don't you think that since it hasn't EVER been that way they should put that in the manual

6. No direct passing when inbounding.... you shall see the cheap turnovers

7. Jump shooting is tough, D is a little too stingy I think, try playing with the 2-3 Zone, and see how tough it is to score inside, and OUTSIDE

8. Fast breaks don't happen correctly. Even when you attempt a fastbreak someone catches up to you a lot of the time, then they hit you and no foul gets called, I understand that the game allows more contact now, but it gets kinda ridiculous sometimes.

Thats just for starters....

I agree the court does seem a little small. My two biggest gripes are the now being able to catch a pass on the run and whats up will all the jump passing?? :x :x

I actually like the inbound passing feature, you will get cheap turnovers untill you get use to it.

Do you not understand what the sliders mean? I feel they basicly explain themselves.

Thu Oct 16, 2003 3:44 am

Don't get me wrong I understand what they mean. But I do think that if you are gonna move things around, especially fundamental things like auto-subbing you should at least list all of the sliders in the manual so players don't have to look around to find them. Or if something is moved from one menu to another you could just mention it in a NOTE like they do in all of the manuals.

I can't believe that I am the only one who has the game that is having these problems

I posted my gripes last night under my thread "First Impressions..."

Um, no...no they don't.

It lets you control the players on the court to try and get open. If time is running down it lets you go down the court for the long pass. You can switch players using the d-pad or direct switch. Trust me it's better.

Jump shooting is tough, D is a little too stingy I think, try playing with the 2-3 Zone, and see how tough it is to score inside, and OUTSIDE

You've had the game one day. Would you rather be able to score at will?

If it bothers you that much use the sliders.

I have found some stuff that's bothering me.

1. Free agency has NOT been fixed. What the hell?!?

2. I have yet to figure out how or when I can trade for draft picks. Every time I try the game tells me "The Jazz is not interested in trading for draft picks at this time." For every team. Even the late 1st round teams aren't interested. Not sure what the heck is going on there...Dynasty mode seems overall to be very crappy.

I was wondering if all passes are not leading passes or is it just that the passer is not that good. For example, Kidd can throw a good leading pass but a big man who rebounds and tries to throw it out straight sometimes don't have good aim. EGarret, you said that not all passes require the receiver to stop. I guess you are the best person to answer this question. Thanks in advance.

I think that its more realistic if sometimes you can throw a good outlet and sometimes you can't.

I haven't checked it out further, but when I took time to land from the rebound the players caught the pass in stride just like they were supposed to. Guys who can't pass...like Ben Wallace...seem to throw bad passes or passes that make the player jump to catch them and thus not be able to get off an open shot.

It seems like if you grab a rebound and just jam the fast break button then you'll get a bad pass. If you outlet it to the point guard then pass you're fine.

Man Ben Wallace is a decent passer, not great but definitley shouldn't be gettin dogged on for it. Last here on the rare occasion when he did get the ball downlow he hit cutters (Richard Hamilton) running through the key frequently! Just standing up for my favourite team.

Oooh. they didn't fix that? dag nabbit, that was one of the most frustrating things about live 03. damn damn damn damn. (N)

with regards to the players catching up on fast breaks, I haven't noticed this nearly as much so far. Infact, I've been able to break away with Steve Francis on a few occasions and go in for the uncontested jam after making a steal around half court. this is something I've never seen before in Live.

Is 2004 worth buying right away

No, that isn't true at all. Not at all. I don't know what you are seeing, but if I have open court and use the turbo button they won't catch up to me unless they are clearly a faster player. In fact one of the coolest things is the fact that if you are fastbreaking and a defender is just behind or beside and riding you your player will try to draw the foul by jumping into the defender a bit while shooting - very realistic and really fun :)

That is crap they catch up to you all of the time...

It also depends on what team you are using. You won't notice it as much with Dallas or SAC especially, or any other team that does a lot of fast breaking.

Not so much if you steal at half court, but they will if you attempt to run a fast break. Try to make a steal at about 3/4 court and pass to an open guy at 1/2 court, not good.

BTW, this is online with the default settings, I haven't started a dynasty and I won't until they update the damn rosters....

the players don't ALWAYS(they do in some instances) catch up to you on a fast break, definitely a major improvement from the past.

Fri Oct 17, 2003 12:07 pm

Sometimes they catch up to you in real life as well, don't they? I know last years sucked at that, but don't let it taint this year's game. If you are talking about playing online than that is against another person, and therefore has *nothing* to do with the computer AI cheating like last year. You can run faster without a ball than with one, so if the other guy is hitting turbo as well, and you aren't positioning yourself than you won't get an easy basket.

Playing against the computer this aspect is very realistic, sometimes you make it, sometimes you don't.

At the 2004 All-Star Game in Live 04 i slapped Ben Wallace with some blocks on a dunk about 7 Times.....It was a Block Party!

East vs West Block Party....

Marv: BLOCK BY KIDD

Marv: Block by Francis

I enjoyed it
