Player Ratings

Who do you think will have the best rating in the game? I'd think either Tracy McGrady or Tim Duncan.

Yea id say your right. Tim Duncan has to be high and as well as the leading scorer in the league!

He just said that Tim Duncan should have high ratings and so should the league's leading scorer T-Mac...

You really are going to make yourself so good that you will be better then anyone else... Man that's just childish. When you create a player you usually get a pretty good package for him and he usually developes into a solid player... I like to create me as me and not just some super-star.

I think Kevin Garnett is the top dog in the league. And now that he has a formidable supporting cast, well you'll see... KG will be the top dog this season. Iverson should be pretty good too... He is just great at his size and probably the most talented player in the league, as he can take on anyone and score on them. And he doesn't have the height as an advantage, but rather a disadvantage. He should be up there... Kobe and T-Mac are good, but don't you ever count out Shaquile! He still dominates when he gets to playing hoops again. No one can stop him... And it should be like that in the game too.

Thu Oct 02, 2003 4:44 pm

Can't really say he's childish. He's only doing what he has fun in doing. Man, my dad will call everyone (including me) childish for playing a video game that doesn't get you any profit... especially if you are older than 18... But I must admit i used to create myself a superman when i was young :)

Anyway, like Metsis, I sometimes create myself after the game starts to get boring. I will have a decent rookie's rating to start with (overall somewhere near 75) but would have a potential rating A. And then I would also create my friend whose rating is 85+ but is 30 years old. He will outplay me for the first couple of seasons but will quickly decline and retire, Lol!

Thu Oct 02, 2003 5:31 pm

My guess would be Tim Duncan and KG with the same raings but also Vince Carter might get a really high rating just because he's the coverboy.

Thu Oct 02, 2003 6:36 pm

i agree with metsis (y), KG will be the highest rated(though duncan became mvp lots of ppl give KG the nod as i have read and heard), Iverson should finally be a top 7(after td,tmac, kobe,kg and shaq)pick, and walker shouldnt be top 15, more like 25.

Thu Oct 02, 2003 8:32 pm

KG, Duncan and Shaq will probably the highest rated active players. I expect a couple of Legends (Michael Jordan being one of them) will be rated higher.

Thu Oct 02, 2003 9:07 pm

Ratings, what should be (in my opinion).

01.Tim Duncan
02.Kevin Garnett
03.Kobe Bryant
04.Tracy McGrady
05.Shaquille O'neal
06.Jason Kidd
07.Chris Webber
08.Dirk Nowitski
09.Allen Iverson
10.Paul Pierce

The hardest one is between Tim and KG. Kinda a hard to decide.

Thu Oct 02, 2003 9:45 pm

I wouldn't be surprised if Duncan and KG both had the highest overall rating among active players.

Very good list that one (Y) The only alteration that i would make to it would be swapping Webber and Iverson. Otherwise, spot-on IMO.

Thanx :)
Yeah I was kinda expecting that someone would say that AI should be higher up at the list but C-Webb has a bit better statistics than AI.
But on the other AI is more important to his team than C-Webb. So maybe you right.

Fri Oct 03, 2003 3:28 am

KG should be rated no. 1 but shaq and TD should be rated equal or a little lower.

I alos think Marbury should be rated rather high the only people i would rate higher than him is:

Pierce, Dirk, Shaq, Kobe, KG, Tmac, C-Webb, TD, Kidd, VC, and A.I.

and maybey Big Ben, J. O'neal, Francis, and R. Wallace

so i guess i expect him to be in the top 15 or a little lower definitely in the top 20 though.

I only make myself like that if I am playing around in one on one mode and those things and making it arcade when u can switch the little thingy from simulation to arcade. In like franchise/dynasty I make my self a little above average player and if I can edit the dbf files so i can make his progress an A or B or whatever the highest progress is. But if you say that is childish then go ahead and say it is childish.

I don't really care who is rated what in the game cause you can always edit them if you don't agree with some...
and walker shouldnt be top 15, more like 25.
Why are we attacking Antoine??? Look, he's not a perfect player, but it's not because of his abilities, it's because of his decisions on the court. Ability-wise, he sure as hell is in the top 15 in the league. I don't know if you know anything about basketball, or have every really paid much attention to his game, but Antoine is amazing. First off, he is the best ballhandling power forward in the league, and that's not even a discussion. If you are going to deny that, then we're not going to have a discussion because you know nothing about basketball. Second, he's an amazing passer, possibly the best at his postion in this category also. I'm sure everyone is going to throw Webber at me, but he doesn't control the ball like Antoine does, in fact, no other PF does. He is the modern-day Magic Johnson, the 6'9" guy who can do it all. I'm not saying he's as good as Magic, that'd be silly, but he's the only comparable player in the league today to Magic's skills.

The only knock on his game is his shot selection. As a die-hard Celtics fan it can be stroke-inducing to watch, but there is a reason for it. When Antoine was drafted by Boston, they had NO ONE on their team. Pitino literally told him to take as many shots as he could. Pitino needed someone who could score and Antoine was the only player Rick felt comfortable handing that role to, so the shots kept going up, no matter how many he made or missed. This went on until Paul came to town, but Antoine was still told to keep shooting. Needless to say, when that mentality is grilled into your brain, it's a hard trend to get out of. It's slowly getting better through time, but he still needs to stop himself a little more often.

Now, everyone is calling for Antoine's head after the Nets series. Kenyon dominated Walker at every turn. Antoine can not match up to his style and Antoine tries too hard to beat him. His frustration was beyond obvious, and every time Kenyon would do him up, Antoine would come back with a terrible shot in retaliation to save some face. He played horribly and the Celtics lost, but I don't know why everyone blames Walker. If it wasn't for him, they sure as hell would not have gotten that far, and he's their leader on and off the court.

Maybe now that we have *fingers crossed* a PG, Walker won't have to handle the ball all the time and he can get set up instead of setting others up. I thought that'd be the case with Kenny, but it didn't pan out that way until his final season with Boston, then he got traded away (Thank you, worst deal in the history of all sports).

Antoine is just one of those guys that rubs everybody the wrong way, and he is treated like crap by his own fans. Every Celtics game I've ever attended, Antoine gets booed EVERY TIME he misses a shot, no matter how open or covered he is. At the same time, he is cheered only half the time he makes his shots. I tell people that we need to back Walker, give him some support, build up his confidence, but people around Boston really dislike the guy.... I don't understand it, and I wish people would just leave him alone.

Sorry for the rant but I can't stand the Walker-bashing already, before the season even started. I've got 41 games of it to look forward to.

Fri Oct 03, 2003 10:53 am

The point of my post was that Walker should be ranked high in the game because the ratings are based on abilities, not decisions. Sorry for the long post, but I get upset when Walker gets attacked.

Fri Oct 03, 2003 4:17 pm

Walker may be the best ball-handling pf in the league but that still doesn't mean that he is in the top 25 most 'talented' or that he is in the top 25 with the best abilities, as you say the ratings are based on, in the league.

Sat Oct 04, 2003 1:50 am

Look Larry Bird my friend :) , im not tryin to take anything away from toine, he idd is a very gifted nba player, with great ball handling and a 3pt shot, and talent wise might be even gifted enough to be the top 15, but that isnt the point, it's player what a player does with his ablities and his decision in the game that make them really great, and like u said, his shot selection is really bad, not just bad, really bad, and he definately forgot most of the season that a PF has to get rebounds too(even if his numbers arent too low, his ability to get rebounds are higher), and i see ur argument about a player changing their ways of playin style, but thats just something great players do, it looks like even iverson is beginning to understand what it takes(but he WAS the only scorer on last year's philly team)or already knew but started doing it, walker has pierce next to him and should take more wise decions cuz if he is supposed to be the leader of the team he has to learn to make the right decisions, if that means shootin the trey he should, but he does it way too much, it's the little things that make great players, look at karl malone(of curz the help of stock cant be denied), its all about makin other betters, there are lots of players who havent got antoine's talent or athletic ability but still are better players becuz of their decision making imho, its just my opinion man, and im not trying to dish but even if he has the potential to be top 15, it just doesnt come out (yet).

I get the feeling Kobe should be the highest-rated player in the game. To be honest...what can't Kobe do on the court? Aside from maybe shot-blocking I don't know what rating wouldn't be high. He can post-up with the fadeaway or baby-hook...his pull-up jump shooting is nasty...he has the NBA record for three pointers in one game...great dunker...good defender and stealer...flashy ballhandler with freakish athleticism. And I don't even care much for him...

Guys like Tim Duncan shouldn't come close. Duncan's ballhandling, three-point shooting and athleticism ratings all would be bad. McGrady should be second. Allen Iverson is lacking strength, inside scoring, rebounding, shotblocking and more. Steve Francis should be up there with his combination of scoring, athleticism, rebounding and playmaking. It really takes a complete player to be the highest-rated guy in the game and to me it's pretty clearly Kobe...

W-a-l-k-e-r.....

Walker was the only guy with the lil 3 point sign by his name on live 2003 that i couldn't get to hit a 3 with. I dunno why that was. I don't know what that has to do with this thread though lol. Walker will have a career best year this coming season imo. The dudes been working out and trying to get in the best shape of his life. I've noticed also that when the celtics win, paul gets the credit. When the celtics lose its walkers fault lol. I wonder if that lil shake walker does after a big play will be on live 2004. That would be sweeeet!

KG is also pretty versatile - I believe he led the Timberwolves in scoring, rebounding, blocks, steals and assists at some season (I know at one point, he ranked first on the team in those five statistical categories).

Not necessarily. Haven't you noticed when you edit or creat players that the same attribute have different overall rating effects according to the position? The highest rated players should be the best players in their respective position.

Sat Oct 04, 2003 2:17 pm

Garnett, Duncan and Shaq should be the highest rated players imo.

Sun Oct 05, 2003 5:29 am

My top 10:
1. Kevin Garnett
- Tracy McGrady
- Kobe Bryant
3. Tim Duncan
- Shaquille O'Neal
