Some clues about Bobcats in Dynasty Mode

it said there are 30 teams for us to choose for the dynasty mode~~

but i haven't got any other information about that~

The word from EA (I posted this a while back) is that the Bobcats are only playable in Exhibition Mode. I'm pretty sure we'll be able to get them into other modes with a little DBF editing, as long as the game is as patcher-friendly as Live 2003.

i have read your post before.

But from that site (EA japan), it states that all 30 teams of NBA can be selected in dynasty mode~

and the link above is explaning the flow of the dynasty mode ~
from select a team
> have some season options
> season begins
> roster management (trainning , trade, etc)
> end of season (award report)
> playoff
> off season stuff

yeah, i know the flow now ~~

i think it may have bobcats in dynasty too because of the word: 30

but anyway, we'll know 19 days later
no matter bobcats is in or not, it is not the team i will start my dynasty ~

Fair enough, but I'm inclined to believe EA themselves when the associate producer tells me they're not available in Dynasty Mode.

Sorry Andrew, but between this and the dynasty video featuring 30 slots available on the draft board, I do think that the Bobcats will in the dynasty mode. Maybe this is our "surpirse" we'd been promised. Like some of the previous NHL games, I can see a expansion draft option being in the dynasty set-up and being allowed to have a draft to fill out the Bobcats' roster in the dynasty mode.

Perhaps you can add a player-created team into the league, and the Charlotte Bobcats would just be a premade team that would one of the choices available. That would explain the fact that an NBA logo, and not the Bobcats logo, was seen in the dynasty video. And that would allow what you've been told by the producers to remain technically true. "Oh, you can't be the Bobcats in the dynasty mode, but you can have an expansion team, and we already provide the bobcats uniform, logo, etc, so if you use these art resources and call it the Charlotte Bobcats....."

And to make myself clear, I think you'll be able to add the Bobcats or a user-created expansion team to the dynasty mode using only in-game options and resources. No DBF editing needed.

I have nothing to gain by reporting false information. To quote the associate producer of NBA Live 2004:

just to clear up that you will not be able to take the Bobcats into Season, Playoff or Dynasty Mode.

Again, I'm inclined to believe someone on the production team.

Just asked about that:

Apparently, it's just an empty slot with the NBA logo. It's simply done for appearance sake - EA felt it looked better that way.

if you want to play with charlotte bobcats, you have to put some player free agent in this team, or make a fantasy dynasty, so you can be the bobcats and choose every players!

if you want to play with the 30th franchise, you have to put new orleans in the midwest division because charlotte will take the hornets spot in the central division

That's true, but the point is you'll have to do some DBF editing to get the Bobcats in Dynasty Mode. They won't be available in Dynasty, Season or Playoff Mode unless we edit the DBF files.

what do you mean with DBF?

you just have to go to the "edit" menu, and sign a free agent in bobcats roster

Yes, I know you'll be able to place players on the Bobcats' roster from within the game. But to use them in Dynasty, Season and Playoff Mode, we'll have to edit the DBF files (teams.dbf, for example) to do so.

By default, we will not be able to add the Bobcats to the league when we start a new Dynasty, Season, or Playoff. But if the DBF files are as patcher friendly as they were in Live 2003, we'll just have to change a couple of values, then we'll be able to use the Bobcats like the other 29 teams.

it's real? cause, i'm gonna buy it on PS2, so i think that ea sports put the bobcats on that game to play with, even in dynasty mode, i think that in PS2 you can play with charlotte, in all mode you'll just have to put players on the empty team and move new orleans on the midwest division

Well, it's not really that bad - it's certainly realistic. The Bobcats don't officially enter the NBA until the 2004/2005 season.

There will almost certainly be a patch with which we can put the Bobcats into the game... Almost certainly, unless EA has gone out of it's way to make this as hard as possible.

sure, but i will buy it on PS2, so you can't change with patch!

and even if charlotte will play in the 2004-2005, i coul not buy an NBA video game every year

and video game is more important on PS2 than on PC for EA

That's why I like to buy Live on PC so you can patch and change everything. I hate playing with old jerseys! If I bought Live 01 for PS2, I would have stopped playing after the Hornets moved, because I'd get so irritated with the fact that they'll still be Charlotte.

it would be really cool if the bobcats were available in dynasty mode, and you could start signing & drafting players at the start of the dynasty and really build it from scratch.

For the first time I would be tempted to start with a team other than my beloved Bulls.
