nba live 2004 on a laptop?????????

Postby yendor28 on Sun Sep 14, 2003 11:28 am

Hey guys,

I know the system requirements are not available yet but I am considering purchasing a laptop and want to make certain I can play nba live 2004 (have to do something between studying :) )

I would think that the type of screen and graphic card would be very important as I know about ram and CPU to a limited extent.

Also, can anyone with a laptop tell me about the battery system and everything else about laptops you think is relevant please.

I am in Australia but have a friend going to singapore where they are apparently A LOT cheaper. Is this the best way to buy one cheaply. I am looking to spend 1000-1500 (I am a poor uni student :( )
thanks guys

Well I am from Singapore, and they are not really that cheap. depends on what you want. A laptop with good specs would cost around $1900-2800 (SGD). Sony Vaios cost around $3500-5000 I believe? Aussie dollar is abit stronger than the Singapore dollar, so yeah that's what you can expect.

You could look around www.hardwarezone.com for SG prices (under the pricelist tab) , but it's mostly PC peripherals, and pc parts. Check out www.dell.com.sg which is one of the leading pc dealers in Singapore. Else check www.compaq.com.sg or www.hp.com.sg, www.nec.com.sg perhaps?

And the place where IT stuff/pc/peripherals are located is in a shopping mall/centre called Sim Lim Square.

Here is my advice:

NEVER, and I mean never bye company-built computers. The malicious BIOS they put in can bug the crap out of you. What I recommend -- even for beginners -- go to a computer warehouse and simple buy all the parts you need.

Here are the basics:
1. Tower "duh" (I really like the new CLEAR ones that have fans attached on the side.)
2. Motherboard (This depends on how much you are willing to spend.)
3. CPU (P4 or Ath. XP) Plus the right cooler.
4. Sound Card
5. Graphic Card "DUH"
6. Power cords (Usually, comes with the tower.)
7. Speakers
8. Monitor
9. Modem
10. Cd-Rom/DVD-rom
11. Floppy
12. Ram
I think that's it.

Trust me, when you add the prices of all this, it will be at least several hundred dollars less than a company-built. Additionally, I heard warehouse can make a labtop for you at a good price.

Yeah but it's laptops we're talking about here. I don't think there are DIY laptops around coz the components will have to fit in the laptop with other considerations.

Desktops done DIY are definitely cheaper than brand name ones.

I don't know about paris silk.

Hey Yendor28!

I would suppose the Acer Travelmate 80x - Series. I myself have a TM 800 with Pentium M 1,3 Ghz processor and the GBU is Ati Radeon Mobility 9000. The Notebook equals a desktop systems with a Intel P4 CPU 2 Ghz.
So, it's reallly enough for today's games!!

With the TM 800 you can work on battery for about 5 hours...and it cost at the moment about 1600 Euro.
The Notebook is really worth it's money!!

Bye the way...it's only 2,8 cm thin and weights about 2,6 kg...tell this all the guys with their heavy desktops at the next LAN  !!

It can be done, but as I have said before, this is for experts. The experts at the warehouse can make one for a cheaper price.

TM 800 rulez!!

Postby blade_marc on Wed Sep 17, 2003 7:51 pm

Hey Yendor!

Your choices sucks...you can't play any game with these notebooks! The Thinkpad G40 doesn't even have a graphic card!! It's just a Memory shared!! You can play Minesweeper with this one :o ...
And by the way...do you really wanna spend 2200 Euro for playing Minesweeper??
The Thinkpad R40 has indeed a real GBU...but it suckz too. It's really out-of-date! The display of this NB is also REALLY shit...you can't compare a XGA TFT with a SXGA+ (e.g. from Acer TM 800). The price is really good...but the processor....hell man! Do you know anything about cmoputer?!? Intel Celeron has been an up-to-date processor about 4 years ago!! You won't even be able to play Minesweeper with this NB
And the Toshiba one...I don't know what GBU it has...the processor may be okay...but it's not a notebook-processor...it's a processor for desktops-systems...so the fan will ALWAYS work! And the NB will gonna be really HOT! Also the battery....2.8 hr....haha!

So check this out! This Notebook is ten times better than every of your choices!!
