i went to the madden challage in chicago and got to play nba live 2004 it was awsome, the part i dont understand is when i went to select the teams i saw bobcats there, but the team did not have any players.so i think the thing is..is that like if you do a dynasty mode then you can pick them and prolly build your dynasty with them, like maybe an expansion draft after the first season

what do you guys think

Everybody was saying I was crazy about suggesting that the Bobcats would be in Live2004.Now look what's being said. That's the second thing I saw in the game that was shot down.
Thanks for confirming what I thought was going to be.One.

Unless the bobcats gets a roster by the start of next season..they wont be in the game. If they get one after the release of the console version but before the release of the pc version...we'll prolly get um on pc-cd. Kinda like what happened with yao ming

how come u saw that? maybe it is like what showstopper said:

that would be fun to do that but can someone explain how an expansion draft works in the NBA? like in real life?
Mon Aug 25, 2003 2:56 pm
I don't know how the expansion draft works in the NBA, but this is how it works in NHL (I think it's quite similar):
Each team can protect a certain number of players (aka their best and important ones).
Then the expansion team can "draft" a single player from all the teams (well not exactly all of them, but most) of the unprotected ones of course. In hockey they get about 22-24 players so I'd think it's about 11-13 in the NBA.
But this is how it works in the NHL.
The expansion draft of the bobcats would be cool... In the middle of the dynasty, well all the better. I would certainly try it.

Yea that's pretty much it, I believe each team can protect 8 players.

I don't think people meant to imply you were crazy or stupid, it just seemed unlikely that an expansion team would be included a year before they enter the league. And I'd still say it's subject to confirmation, because they may not be in the finished version.

Oh, Ok than, but than the expansion team would just be able to draft crappy players if the other teams can protect up to 8 players. Unless of course your like the kings or someone with lots of depth....

when i was playing nba live 2004 their were some people who worked for ea sports, they were bacically there for questions, when i saw bobcats in the game, i went and asked them if bobcats are going to be in the game, and the guy said yes, so i think that conforms it.

oh yeah one more thing anyone remember madden 2002? they had the houston texans in the game but the texans came to the league a year after!!!
and you could only play them in franchise, so i belive that bobcats are going to be in the game just as the texans were in madden 2002

ya that is what everyone already said would probably happen....
But that is great, hopefully say u don't play as the bobcats that if u play as say the lakers, that the bobcats will still be in the game, like u get to choose the players you freeze and that the computer has it expansion draft than one year into the dynasty mode that they appear. And i think after you have them in dynasty than u could be able to play them in like expedition mode and stuff

:!:, I really hope this is true!
If it is, the first Dynasty team that i'll use will be Bobcats for sure.
What an awesome concept!

It is true, the Bobcats will be in NBA Live 2004. I stand corrected on my original assertion, but at the time it did not seem likely. But anyway, I stand corrected and can confirm that they will be in the game.

Good to know that the Charlotte Bob'Johnson'Cats will be in Live 2004.
It's good to know that you can manage a real NBA team and start from scratch!

Agreed. As Nick suggested, the inclusion of the Bobcats presents an exciting scenario for a Dynasty game.

NHL series had their shot at this when the Atlanta Trashers and Columbus Bluejackets came into the league. But then the expansion draft was right at the beginning of the multi-season mode.
It would be cool to see it implemented after the first season.
With 8 protected players, well there are things to consider. Are you sure you want to protect that veteran player who might be good, but on his way down with a huge contract or a young promising rookie? There are all sorts of things you need to think about. If you already have Shaq playing center, well would it be wise to protect his back up that plays like 10 minutes a game. It is more complicated then you think.
I think it was in Live 2000 when Ilgauskas ruined a franchise for me. He had a maximum contract and overall of 82 (or something, which was actually quite good back then), but he dropped to 78 after one season and to 73 after the second. So I just basically had a maximum contract worth of dead weight on my roster for 7 years. That was a keeper. The first time I noticed what problems can occur with these extravagant contracts.

Andrew is this something that you can confirm, as in information from EA?
It's just that I read through a few posts on this topic only to find out that peoples were lying, and then it went messy...well, you know the rest.

You really think Andrew would lie to us?

I never really thought about that. But your right, it is more complicated. It is going to be really fun this year! I can't wait....

wow that sounds great...but starting a franchise with crappy players is rili difficult...and i'm sure it'll be difficult for the Bobcats...they'll probably stay at the top five pick for the next 4-5 years before they'll have a shot at the playoffs...

not nessisarily(sp?) cause they can get a few good players from the expansion draft, like teams like kings and blazers, have lots of depth so you could get one of there players. But anyway, still you will be like building a franchise.
Oh and if Bobcats are in the game, I think this is a plus for having custom teams in too. Not 4 sure but i think it is a good sign towards having custom teams in the game.

Yes, I did double check and received confirmation about the Bobcats being in the game. As I've said before, I'll only say I can confirm something about the game if I can - anything else is simply my hopes and comments as a fan of the series.

As much as I'd love to have custom teams again, I don't think the Bobcats inclusion necessarily suggests the return of custom teams. It would be great if it did though.

Well it might, because of if here is custom teams doesn't that mean that there would be expansion drafts and if bobcats have an expansion draft, then, well you know.
Wed Aug 27, 2003 5:36 am
It depends on whether the expansion draft is a part of Dynasty Mode or also accessible when working with the default rosters. The expansion draft could simply be for the Bobcats - it doesn't necessarily mean there will be custom teams.
Don't get me wrong, I'd like custom teams too, but until someone from EA confirms their inclusion or the game is released and custom teams are clearly in the game, I'm inclined to think they won't be in NBA Live 2004.
