They have some dumb ass contracts signed somewhere that does exclude them from the NBPA's list of usable players that they can give to each game creator. Jordan was missing until his second retirement from Live games too, and David Robinson didn't appear on the first versions either...

I don't exactly know why this is, but it just is... NBPA doesn't have the rights to all their former or current players. And EA won't use resources to go around the globe getting permissions to use every players name and face in the game.

Barkley was an active player up until NBA Live 2000, and a Legend in Live 2000 and 2001. Perhaps he's asking for too much too appear as a Legend in NBA Live, so EA did not obtain his rights. Ditto for Kareem.

Yes, as long as the game is patcher-friendly and there are talented patchmakers, there's a way. :)

Those previews... (Y)

It's basically for PC only... The problem is that there are no hard drives on the consoles (or did the new ones have them already???), but accessing them and applying them to a game is hard cause most of the game information comes from the CD and is on the CD too.

Pc only, for now atleast.

Patching is pretty much PC only. There are downloadable roster updates for the PS2, but you need additional hardware (a Sharkport) to use them.

but barkley is said to be in shootout 2004, and thats not fair cause live 2004 is gonna be a way better game. (although I have to admit shootout 2003 showed major improvment)

It may not be fair, but if legal issues prevent someone appearing in a video game, there's not much that can be done.
