A few questions for the community

Postby BrotherJRB on Wed Aug 20, 2003 4:39 pm

First off I am very impressed with the previews for Live 04. I almost shed a tear when I read that sliders were going to be included this year. 2 buttons for set shot and attacking the rim.....oh my October will be good.

Now the questions I have for the community, more or less guaging emotion on the promise of 2004. Also how people play the game.

1) What feature that is included in this years game excites you the most?

2) What aspect of the game needs changing that hasn't been mentioned in the previews?

3) Do you play Dynasty mode, Season mode or exhibition games by yourself or with friends?

4) How many minutes per quarter do you play?

5) Do you use the designed plays?

6) Have you ever played a Season/Franchise year all the way through?

------------------------------------
My answers

1) Sliders!!!! I love being able to tweak the game without editing all the players individual ratings

2) Many things but the most obvious is the Dstats field! It's not so much that having the Dstats field is bad its the fact that it doesn't have enough fluctuations and the bench players get no PT!!! I wish we could set the playing time players would get and then the simmed stats would reflect increases or decreases in playing time.
Editors note: Dstats field is the preset database numbers that give your players simulated stats.

3) I play dynasty/franchise mode but I create all my players. I have a storyline and all that jazz, I hope to get a website up on my dynasty for this year. My created players all are very average and I am usually ranked 27-29 overall in the league.

4) I play full 12....couldn't imagine it any other way!

5) I always have...last year they limited the play selection from 8 plays to call to 4 which sucked!!!!!!

6) Not since Live 2000 have I played a full 82 game season through. It took me 2 years!!!

---------------------------------------
Just trying to spark some interest to the site and the game......alot of good guys still on here that I enjoy reading on the forum also appreciate the 3rd party patchers you guys make the game so much better thanks for the hard work!

jr
2013 is the year?
Thanks to Vl@d, Leftos and all the other patchers for their hard work.

1) The enhanced Franchise with the training and stuff along with the 10-man freestyle.

2) The bench players get shafted...All-Star weekend...Can we get a rookie game!

3) I play Dynasty by myself...Exhibition with friends...For money of course.

4) 8 mins.

5) No

6) I've played seasons and I played about 8 years through a Milwaukee Franchise...I simulate against everyteam with a sub-500 record however.

1) I think the new dynasty mode gets off the most... I like the promise it has, but still I don't think it will be as good as we hope. The improved defense is ok too.

2) The fact that you can win with almost any team against any team. If you suck, you should suck. You should have to fight for all the points against the top teams.

3) Dynasty (almost exclusively)

4) 6-8 minutes... It depends on how long does it take to get realistic scores. 12 minutes in Live 2003 would get the scores up to 200 and that's far from realistic. And you would rule every statistical category especially with 10 blocks per game.

5) Never have really used plays. I use some different defensive set ups sometimes, but if the default play gets it done, it's good.

6) I've played through numerous seasons without simulating a single game back in Live 95. I play some, but I simulate the most now. That the stats won't be that off at the end of the season.

By the way: DSTATS suck... But I won't get into that here and now.

1. Dynasty Mode, but the addition of sliders is a close second.

2. Rotations, especially All-Star games. Without fail, 2 All-Stars on the CPU team will not see action in the game. A small detail, but the only one I can think of at this juncture.

3. Dynasty vs the CPU.

4. 12 minutes

5. Yes

6. Yes, but only once without simulating a single game.

1) i'm hoping dynasty mode, but like metsis im afraid it still wont live up to our expectations, lets wait and c
2)players secondary positions, and making deals/drafting according to need and not best player available(and PT for the bench)
3)Franchise/Dynasty against the cpu
4)8mins for realistic scores(and i kinda hope u dont have to play full 12mins to have realistic scores in live 2004, but sliders are there to correct that)
5)not a single one of them
6)of course but not without simming, i almost sim everything(especially in 2003 cuz the gameplay irritates the heck outta me), unless it's a darby, but the problem is i usually get bored with the same team a lot

1) 10-man freestyle and the two different shot buttons
2) I agree about the DSTATS; another thing I'd like to see is better multiplayer support - a good netcode that isn't seemingly dependent on which detail settings you have, freethrows that can get in consistently online and the option to play with multiple people online (eg. 2 real people on each team) - I haven't read every preview though, so it might have been mentioned
3) Some dynasty, but I sim most of the games. I mostly play online (I was in two leagues but quit one due to time constraints)
4) 7 online, offline 8, with 12 minutes for simmed games
5) Yes, about every 3rd or 4th offensive possession. Although mostly Pick&Roll... ;)
6) Not without simulating the majority of games. Never. I've played a few 28 games seasons where I played every game, but that was probably with live 95-98

P.S.: Man, I have last posted here right after Andrew took over the site management and it was still the old boards.

1) Probably the sliders or the enhanced freestyle.
2) Trading/Drafting to there needs not not ratings. Also with the trading when u make a trade if computer doesn't accept tell us why, not just "Team Y is not interested in your trade", say stuff like"Team Y feels we will be too weak at the y position" and "We don't want to trade X player".
3) I play Dynasty Mode by myself.
4) 10 minute quarters cept I simulate 12 minute quarters(i play live 2001 not 2003)
5) Never, cept in live 2003 I usually will do isolation and post-up.
6) Yes I have, and i have actually completed a franchise once, but i don't played 1 game per season and I simluted the rest( :P )

1.) Two buttons to shoot :D

2.) Computer A.I. needes to be almost unbeatable(for example the cpu can be down by 3 or less points wit 2 seconds left and they wont call timeout to advance the ball and end up shooting for full court and most of the time they miss :( but i do have to admit once i was up 2 wit 2 seconds remaining and D. Wesley shot that full court three and well........u can guess wat happened  He is now my hero  ) and the stars should take the bulk of the shots.

3.) I play dynasty by myself cause i have tried wit my bro and a friend but they hardly play there games and wen i wanna play i wann play so they end up simulating and then they get me to simulate so we end the franshise in less than a week and that be the end of it so i now alays do them by myself.

4.) Wit friends i play 5 minutes but on my franchise i play 7 minutes

5.) Yes, sometimes on 2004 but on the previous lives i always used 3pt play 4(which wasnt in 2004), motion 3, zipper 6, double high 3 & 4, and a few others i cant think of. As far a Defensive plays i leave that up to my team.

6.) Yea i played all 82 games wit the suns, I am on game 75 wit the sixers, and 62 wit the rockets. This was the first time in a while that i played all 82. I usually only get to like 50 or 60 because i never simulate unless im jus simulating through an entire season.

oh yea does anyone know if they will have diferent zones like 2-3, 3-2, 1-3-1, etc. in 2004?

1) Sliders, so I can copy off you guys to figure out where to set them for a good game :)

2) I wanna be able to set my offensive/defensive controls independent of each other. Also the 5 on 5 multiplayer online, for when I finally get broadband.

3) Season/Franchise solo. All my friends are whiny first person shooters.

4) 9 Minutes, then sim 12. Stats come out sorta close for me that way.

5) If you count the pick and roll... because when the rollers animation starts he somehow becomes this invincible juggernaut who runs through defenders towards the rim and I can score a lot that way.

6) I played a few full seasons on '00, 50 some games in a season with the rocks in '03, sim the franchise stuff though.

Thanks. Was going by the name of "LJ" back then... I do remember Yohance and jrlocke from back then, actually.

Ah, let's hope Live2004 peaks my interest again. :)

Oh, topic hijack, sorry. Move along, nothing to see here

online lag button delay
the lag factor in live 2003 pc is horrible
you have to off time your shot because the delay throws the game off
i have never seen anything like it but this is somethin that really needs to be fixed in 2004 imo.
