Team Rankings

Postby Ruff Ryder on Sun Jul 20, 2003 12:50 am

Will team rankings ever be realistic. Some playoff teams are ranked in the 20's(spurs,suns). Then some teams like the t'wolves who never get out of the first round are higher than others.

yea i know but we buy to play, not to try and fix what EA messed up.

Also it can easily be fixed by EA.

As someone who's worked with rosters for a long time, I know that it's difficult to find a good balance between ranking the teams correctly and giving players realistic ratings. It's very easy to make players underrated and overrated when you're trying to get the team rankings to be realistic. Sometimes it's possible to overcome this problem using the "rating adjust" attribute in teams.dbf.

I wish they wouldnt rank by the player ratings of whos on the teams but by where they finished or the players stats.

That's the whole idea of the "ratings adjust" attribute, to compensate for lower rated players on good teams. But it's not always an ideal solution.

Also, no matter what the rankings are, there will always be someone who disagrees with them.

There's an attribute in teams.dbf called RTGADJUST (rating adjust). It's used in the calculation of team rankings using the ratings of players on the roster.

Since you brought it up, I'd like to see the old style of team select screen where you can order teams by overall ranking, offense, defense, rebounding etc.

Exactly what I thought was missing from 2003 also! The old system allowed for much quicker or more purposeful team selections.

The differentiated team ratings should make a come back.

It just helps to manage a team... The fact that you can see your ups and downs compared to the other teams is a definate plus. And you can easily see what needs to be fixed. Like if you are overall 10th and your defense is ranked 22nd, well bringing in some more defensive minded players should help you break the leagues top 10. This would really be helpful.

I really liked it when the teams had these stats included... You kind of know what to expect.
