Live 2004 VS Live 2003?

Postby malice_05 on Mon Jul 14, 2003 2:04 am

Tell you the truth I think Live 2004 will be almost the same as Live 2003 except for the defence and some minor changes like graphics, new rosters, TNT announcers, and arenas. The one feature that will probably be really different is the Dynasty and that probably it. I've read a lot of the facts on Live 2004 and really I just think its a roster update with a new Dynasty and minor changes. But then again, I could be wrong or looking at it weird. Tell me wut y'all know.

well from what i gather on seeing the videos ...you seem to be both wrong and looking at it wierd. Obviously its not a complete and total overhaul of live 2003 since its the same game engine and such, however within a year EA seems to have made a good effort in making a fun simulation. In any case the game isnt released yet and i havent played it yet so I reserve my judgement till then.

I agree. The gameplay and graphics look like they got a nice makeover. When it said that u will be able to adjust your shot in mid-air i think it'll be like marchmadness and NBA 2k3 when u can switch to a layup. The way EA does it makes it seam alot more realistic(than NBA 2kx) and it makes for nice, flashy plays around the rim. You'll probably be able to tripple clutch kinda like jordan in his glory days.

I don't think NBA Live 2004 will simply be a roster update. Consider the differences we already know about. Improved Freestyle Control will distinguish big men from the point guards, sliders will allow us to tweak the gameplay to our liking without messing around with player ratings and improved collision detection and changing shots in mid-air are just a few of the improvements we've already been told about.

Whether or not you get it is up to you, but I think there is enough reason for us to be optimistic about Live 2004.

New Dynasty! Hello!!! All the things that this could consist! Well you haven't really played the game if you say that a new dynasty mode is nothing new!

The game is all about the franchise/dynasty. That is the thing that keeps the game intresting throughout the years.

They are obviously holding back the information on what this new dynasty will have, but I have faith in them. All the other games seem so great so I think the Live series will too deliver.

I was just focusing on what we've already been told in my post, but yes, on top of the features I mentioned we're also getting an improved version of Franchise Mode in the form of Dynasty Mode.

You can't really say that Until 2004 comes out... Who knows, it may be a flop, it may be the best Live game ever!

Most of the previews in previous years have been positive, but this year's previews seem to suggest some of our most common complaints have been addressed.

i hope they fixed the contact in the air and the blocking issue.
Also the unrealistic dunks, the stupid Defense......that's a lot to do for one year......
But I still hope.

I agree...up until the announcement about pulling the Classic Teams again...it seemed like they took a break from adding flashy new features this year in favor of adding all the things that veteran Live players have wanted. Sliders, Dynasty mode (hopefully, dear god hopefully with tradeable draft picks) etc etc...

With all the time focused on the improvements instead of an engine overhaul or some unrequested flashy feature...it was shaping up to be a dream Live for veteran fans. Unfortunately they are still doing business as usual in regards to announcing features then not working to include them...but we'll see...

Announcing the inclusion of classic teams as early as they did was a mistake, but one that can probably be attributed to the marketing department rather than the production team. I don't think it was done to spite us, I'm pretty sure something's changed (players backing out, can't reach an agreement, etc) and they've had to drop the feature.

honestly when Live 2004 comes out yall still gonna have complaints and requests so a point i'm trying to make is whether it's Live 2004 or Live 2008, will most of you be SATISFIED? I dont mean that as an insult or anything but from Live 99 to now, there have been complaints and requests, now goin into 2004, you'll want more in 2005 and so on.
Am I right??

That's a valid point. After years of complaints about the lack of realism, it would be funny if complaints surfaced about NBA Live 2004 being too realistic. :) There will always be room for improvement, the game won't satisfy everyone. EA (or any other developer for that matter) can only hope to satisfy the majority.

10 man freestyle!!!!
i guess the original motion capture really was bad, since they players had to act the movements, now its an actual game! i saw those 10 man freestyle videos, and man, it looked good, jst like wht happens in an NBA game

I REALLY Like when you get past a defender and another comes up to either pick him up for double.

In this game when u call a double team the second defender doesn't stand there like a jackass..I love that.

The only thing that troubles me a lil about that video is that when ur on offense it seems like all the inactive players on the team seem to always be calling for the ball (Here pass it to Me!!)

It seems like it would have been cool if the next player on that specific play that was due to get the ball would call for the ball. It would really help alot in running plays. (Something I've never really been able to get a grip on)............

Does anyone know if you'll have the option to control your player with the D-Pad? That's the reason I passed on Live 2003.

my guess is probably thru some configuring but I'd say go on ahead & buy a new controller with analogs so you dont have to worry.

Colin, I was referring to the PS2 version, which doesn't give the option of using the D-pad. I'm hoping EA rectified this.

The previews were promising, but the gameplay was disappointing for us simulation/realism fans.

Live 2004 is going to have the QuickPlays, so I'd say you won't be able to use the D-Pad for player control.
