Offensive Goaltending

If anyone here can contact EA and has some connection, please tell them to put Offensive Goaltending on this year's version. In Live 2003 the referees would never call an offensive goaltending violation. When I shoot a three pointer and it rolls around the rim for a while, my teammate would jump up and slam the ball in. I really find that annoying because it also happens to my opponent's team. I hope they fix that problem up in Live 2004.

But believe me, if we were to contact EA and tell them to put it in, it's not going to make them put it in. They're not going to add something like that this late in production, simply because we tell/ask them to. All we can do is hope that it's in Live 2004, and if it isn't, keep it as a suggestion for next year's Wishlist.

And the ting is, 2003 said player ummm (Whats the word, where they always do the thing, like Karl Malone fadingon a FT shot), Karl Malone doesn't dunk 2 handed... He has never touched the ring with 2 hands...

id like them to fix the fact that they count 3's when you are clearly on the line, same with taking a charge.

Charges get awarded against you too easily, and sometimes for... You should have to at least have the charge stance set for 2 seconds or something...
I have shot threes that counted from inide the line, on the sides;) But around the top nailed a clear 3, only to hear the annoucer say FOR TWO

That's way too long, in real life if you stayed still for 2 seconds they;d be able to turn around you so easily, I just wish that those backing down fouls where you press take charge as soon as the post player gets the ball then wait weren't called so often. I don't do that very often anymore cause it's so cheap.

does it really matter if they're hangin on the rim? isn't the fg percentage the same as if he wasn't hanging? it's jus a graphical glitch isn't it?

If it were a real NBA game and that happened, the basket would be waved off due to the offensive interference rule (otherwise known as offensive goaltending).

No, it doesn't have any bearing on the stats. It's just that we know it's a violation, so it's frustrating when it's not called. It's not a glitch or anything, it's just a non-call.

It happened in an All Star game... Dikembe Mutombo grabbed the ring when MJ shot, the Annoucer sayed DIKEMBE MUTOMBO, but later the points were awarded to MJ....

Yeah, they did that in the 1998 All-Star because it was the All-Star game and the referees didn't want to get in the way of the show. The basket was originally given to Mutombo, but then awarded to MJ.

If the ball is still in the imaginary cylinder that exists straight up above the hoop, it cannot be touched by an offensive or defensive player. To avoid offensive goaltending, the shot must not be in that imaginary cylinder, essentially meaning the shot no longer has a chance of going in on its own accord.

Do you mean that you've never been called for it in NBA Live? If so, then no one has as it's not in the game.

No in real life... Guess the Umpires didn't know the rule on it.. Unless its different in Aus... I hate Aus rules for Basketball:o

In my experience, the officiating over here in the amateur and junior leagues is nothing to be proud of. It wouldn't surprise me if some of them had never heard of offensive goaltending.

I heard that international rules state that you can't touch the ball coming down to the hoop until it hits the rim. Which would mean that if it hits the rim and bounce up and is in the middle of the "imaginary circle" you could still touch it. I'm sure about this though.

I forgot about that. International rules do define offensive goaltending differently, so it's likely the rules here in Australia are similar to international rules rather than NBA rules.

I hate Australia NBL rules... Having to bounce before tweo steps really throws out my dunking game:o

You get used to it. Andrew, your completely right. Officials in the junior leagues are nothing to be proud of. BASA probably has the worst officials in Australia.

I thought that you couldn't touch the ball while it was above the rim. In the finals I think Jefferson was called for it, but not sure about the sit though it happens so fast.

And when have you seen a ball hang on the rim after shooting a three pointer??? It bounces quite high from the rim usually, but it is incredibly hard to kill the ball over the rim with a three pointer. Upclose it's quite easy and it often goes in, but with a long bomb... No freakin way. That was one of the flaws I noticed after playing 2003 for a while. After I got used to the speed and stuff.

That's correct. That's the imaginary "cylinder" I was talking about, going straight up from the hoop.
