Game never starts HELP NEEDED

I have windows XP and when I double click the game icon the screen flashes white for a quick second and then it returns to the desktop.

thats what happens to me do this,

turn off ur computer then turn it on then when u put the game in, dont have ur internet connected

updated direct X, still have problems with direct3d.

still does not work.
?

Anymore suggestions $Alston$............try uninstalling the game and then install again

uninstalled and installed for the third time.
still no change.
this is pretty ridiculous, paying 20 USD for a game and then spending two days trying to make it work.
if there are any more suggestions (that go beyond trivial trouble shooting stuff), i will be grateful.
otherwise, i think this baby is on the way to the trash can.
