trading players with draft picks involved

Postby dukekobeshane on Wed Jan 26, 2005 3:07 am

i can't seem to be able to make a trade when i have a draft pick involved in the trade it either says "the team isn't interested in trades involving draft picks at this time, try later in the season" or that they simply aren't interested at this time. has anyone been able to do this?

Well to kinda answer my own question i finally was able to trade players for a draft pick. For anyone wondering i did it like a week before the trade deadline. Like other have said on other post's it really is a huge pain in the butt to do its like one and million. the key i think is trade guys that the other team really wants (you can tell this by the bar at the right of their names) and plus you have to use decent or good players. The big draw back to this, as i found out, is that since you are giving them good players and more then likely takin away one or two of their bad players you make THEIR team better! haha so now i might have done this for nothing, they might not have as bad a record now so the pick won't be all that high. haha its pretty much not even worth it.

I actually have to disagree with you here…actually all you really need to do is keep an eye out on the transactions…the team that will be willing to trade a draft pick, will drop a player on a particular date. After two or more games have passed, this is when they are usually receptive in trading…if when trading for a draft pick they say "such and such is not interested in your offer" THEN you know you can trade FOR a draft pick, you just have to package the right deal.

I've been able to get 4 1st round picks on a regular basis …up until about 2012…eventually all my guys were guys I want to keep!)

i see what your sayin but what i was doing was tryin to get a pick from a team thats on the bottom 2 or 3 of the league so basically i'm tryin to get the number one pick and when your being that specific you can't always count on a open roster space from that team, although i did get lucky with mine and that is exactlly what happened, but thats why i say its one and a million.

but thats pretty sweet that you had 4 first rounders

And just as another question to put out there: has anyone ever seen second round pick develope into a good player? when i draft i always just forfit my second round pick cause you never get anyone good and i don't think i'v ever seen one get good. like a micheal redd or boozer or gilbert areans in real life.

Ohhhhhhhhhh Okay, I got ya..

…but I still disagree with you that it's 1 in a million to get the #1 draft pick…

Here's my technique for that:
Don't even bother fightiin' to trade with the worst team in the league. Basically, get the most 1st round picks you can get for that year. Let the draft happen, and note who got the first pick in the lottery. THEN the next season with all your 'expendable' first rounders, trade up for #1. Sometimes, you'll have to do a mock trade to see what he really wants, and then sign a bunch of 59 minimum salary dudes and do a multiplayer trade. Usually that's the only way they'll accept.
I'm glad you brought it up…

Btw, do you have any cyberfaces to 'trade-up' Basically, I'm in year 2014 and all the rookies are starting to look alike…so I need more faces...

Trading for picks is not an easy task...

Yeah, it is hard to trade fr a pick. What I usually do is create and unecessary created player then, when his stock hits an all time high (the bar is maxed out) trade him for your coveted draft picks. It won't always work but it sure beats nitpicking your brain to obtain the one pick that teams raely give up (unless you give them your best player ala Lakers). I find that trading for the no. 1 does not produce the necessary dividends of the first years. Also, try using the Training Camp patch so you could better develop second round players through individual training.

Another thing, I got the steal of the draft when my second round twenty ninth pick over all got into the Rookie First Team in season one and the best defensive player in season two. Like a certain GM said, it is all about luck. I once got the no. 1 pick over all via trade to LA Lakers and I saw a generated rookie with the name Jeffrey Jordan. I took the risk even if he was only a projected top 10 in the scouting report and got the surprise of my life when he actually looked and played like MJ. Like I said, it is all about luck (and outwitting other people).
