Anisotropic/Billinear/Trilinear

Postby Adrian on Thu Jul 01, 2004 11:29 pm

Can someone explain the difference between Anisotropic/Billinear/Trilinear, and is there much difference between the three in terms on quality or performance?

Also, Is there much different having my graphics as 16bit or 32bits?

Also, what about V-Sync? Should I leave it on or off?

My video card is a Nvidia GeForce 4 Ti4200 running on a P4 2.4Mhz.

Thanks people

Adrian.

Nvidia has some info: http://www.nvidia.com/page/pg_20010527107687.html
32bit has better quality than 16 bit. Anisotropic 8x has best quality, then trilinear then bilinear. Anisotropic filtering effects 3D depth quality. A game like Far Cry would look better with it on. Aniso may not effect NBA Live very much. I recently read that you should let each game control the 3D settings. In the 'display properties' box (right click on desktop and select properties then settings/advanced/3D) check the "application preference" check box. Otherwise your video card will be working overtime and this will effect performance. Every PC is different. Start with low settings and keep bumping up the settings until you are happy. You are the final judge. Your system should be able to run 32 bit/trilinear/v-sync off witout any problem.

I dunno about you guys but I notice a HUGE difference in the game looks when I turn Antiialiasing on at least 4x. It takes out the jagged edges in the players bodies and gives them a smoother look.

I have a Nvidia card and I with my card I just have to make sure that I uncheck the box that says Application controlled so the game FORCES the game to run with antialiasing on.

Ive found that I can play the game at a lower resolution with antialiasing turned on and not see that much of a performance hit.

I dunno bout yall but I've never been able to tell a difference in the look of the game when I turn on anistrophic filtering.......

Here's some info on v sync. It will effect your FPS or performance. Turn it on if your system can handle it.
