Alley-oops: Why can't players make them more often?

Postby arden_05 on Thu Jun 03, 2004 8:32 am

What's up guys I have a problem with the Alley-oops in the game. It seems as if I make about 23 to 30 percent of my alley-oops that I pass. And its not even like there are defenders flooding the lane or anything it could be a basic 2 on 1 fast break...I 'll throw it up to T-mac or Vince...or Jason Richardson...or any other dunker in the league and they will miss it most of the time. Everyone knows in actuality that if you throw a oop to anyone of these guys they will throw it down at least (and I emphasize) at least 90 percent of the time. My question is does anyone know of any slider settings that can increase the chance of players converting alley-oops...because when Vince Carter misses an alley oop with know one guarding him...that's just ridiculus

I used to try to use off-ball switch to a post player being fronted then go for the alley-oop, but I made one of them. Out of at least 30 attempted.

use the 'starter' skill, 95% of your alleyoops are gonna go in.... even if you throw it from half court... :P

This isn't a scientific statement, but it appears to me that the angle of the pass makes a difference. If the pass comes from too far behind the dunker from a longish distance, it's almost always a miss. Meh, dunno... haven't played much in a while, but that's what I remember.

I personally average less than one alley-oop a game, but I make most of mine. And I play on superstar with lower than 50 alley-oop ratings. You really have to pick your spot for them...you can't throw it up whenever you want.

My biggest problem with alley-oops is that the AI makes the most ridiculous ones where a guy practically runs over one of my players but somehow the ball goes it. On the other hand, I lob it up, my mom goes for the fairly easy lay-up, but misses....?

you've also gotta time it correctly. if u throw it too early, or too late, it's gonna mess up. generally, i don't try to alleyoop with anyone that doesn't have a dunker icon unless he's wide open.

another good way to throw a good alleyoop is when the player cuts to the hole and waves his hand to let you know he is open or if he is on the break and waves his hand. They almost always make those

I was missing nearly all my alley-oops as well. It wasn't about position, having a free lane or whatnot, it was because I was pressing the alley-oop button too long. You need to tap it instead of pressing the button. And then you'll be making a higher percentage...

i prefer the way that they do for 2003...holding will make them dunk...just tap will make them throw..i think ea should have the tapping become throwing off the back board.........hee..and yea...realistic movement of alley hoops and more stunt like windmill
