Part 2: Update on rookies and some ideas

Postby R-Tistic on Mon Apr 19, 2004 12:42 pm

Alright...in the other post about me creating all the rookies, I have some what of an "update" which is more of an idea than anything else right now.

First up..I haven't really done anything with the 94 rookies I created. I don't know if it worked for everybody either. But UK_Fan and lilrepole, who created the NCAA Live patch, sent me rosters and I am going to do something with the players to have them available for a draft. He told me today that jbluvchild (i don't know him) said there IS a way to put the rookies in the draft, and to ONLY have these players in the draft without the generated rookies getting in the way. So I will tell you, I might not have much progress within the next 2 weeks because I have finals and all...but after that I should have somethin together.

Now....for another idea. I don't know if I am the only one who gets kind of annoyed for various reasons with the generated rookies. Many of them just look horrible, have horrible numbers and fake names, and they just annoy the hell out of me. I don't know about you all, but I think it would add some creativity and fun if each of us created our own draft class, or two or three, and just add players that you create yourself, whether it's people you grew up with or just fake people. I love creating players, and I usually make them humorous in different ways..not by havin real stupid names or whatever but just little things I'll do to make it fun. Sometimes I'll make them be sons of famous legends or even relatives of celebrities. Now if I do create two draft classes, 04 and 05, that consist of real NCAA and high school players...I know I am gonna create at least one draft class full of created players if it really is possible to insert them into a draft with no generated players. Is anybody interested in doing this?

Update 2...I hope to get responses this time.

I tried a few different things to see if I could eliminate the generated rookies being in the draft with my rookies, and I think I have realized that it is not possible to eliminate them at all. The thing is, these generated rookies are created during the offseason, where it is no way to actually save the roster when they are generated but not drafted...I realized that on the working DB, it has the current roster, such as the generated rookies, but if you are playing in the season at the same time, you can not access this file. So I am about 90% sure that it is no way to delete them....but that doesn't mean it's not a way to somehow prevent them from being created...I just don't know how.

However...I suppose the draft results were alright. I now have 112 created players, probably 90-100 that possibly will come out in the next 2-4 years, and some that couuuuld but probably won't. I changed their PKGs to hopefully be somewhat realistic, and I changed the ratings a lot but they still are not as good as they probably should be, but NBA Live already has a lot of people's ratings messed up so it won't really mean much. Also, I haven't changed the salaries to be realistic.

Dunno if this is possible.. but maybe you can either

- delete all generated rookies at the end of the draft
- replace generated rookies with the ones you have created, rather than having them all be available in 1 draft

Yesterday, I was just experimenting. One thing I did that worked using some different DB editor was to copy and paste my rookies over the generated rookies, by sorting both DBFs by the rookie rank. This worked, but I will have ot do some changes in order for the teams to get rookies that they need to fill their positions.
